What litter are your kittens using?

My two are on Breeder Celect (paper), which they used previously. It doesn't smell when wet, so that's good. Some sticks to their paws but I'm not worried about that. As they're eating a lot and consequently weeing a lot, I'm getting through one bag at week, which is £13.99 at PAH.

What does everyone else use?

Someone mentioned kittens may eat litter, so clumping isn't good in their tummies, also they might like something softer under their paws and just wondering if this is really the case.

Mine use smartcat wood litter. 30l for around £9.50.

AnarchyKitty, how long does it last?

We use the £9 bag of Breeder Celect and its lasting us a while so far. We were using the small bag until we knew it was okay. How often do you change it? It does annoy me that it sticks to his paws and is all over the kitchen floor! Hurts when you stand on it.

We moved from clumping to Wilko's silicone litter and I'm really pleased with it. £3 bag fills the tray and need changing once a week, obviously scooping poop out as it occurs! My only concern was that it seemed a bit sharp, but they don't seem to mind standing on it.

When we got our kits we used catsan. We get the economy pack from zooplus.

Kits cheerfully peed and pooped on soft furnishings instead.

So we asked the vet what they’d used (they were rescues) to be told they used shredded newspaper.
So DP made up a litter box with shredded newspaper.
And they pooped in our bed (we ended up having to change bedsheets at 2am).

I thought maybe they needed a covered tray (for privacy, because I was clearly crazy), so DP fashioned a cover for the litter tray. Came home from work to find both kits cuddled up fast asleep in the covered (clean) litter tray!

Eventually they started using the regular catsan litter when they saw our big boys using it.

Did spend the first three weeks doing a whole lot of laundry tho.

hartof, I completely change it about once a week a (although I clean each tray roughly every three days). I do it in the morning and there isn't usually much left over after clearing out the previous nights fillings!

I realised after I replied that you have 2 cats so that makes sense.

AnarchyKitty · 21/09/2018 20:40

Lasts me around 2-3 weeks with two kittens and three trays.

I have 11 cats and I go through a 30ltr bag of the woodpebble litter from B&M which costs £6 in a week. I have 5 litter trays and put two cups full in a day after cleaning.
