How to settle a cat?

We're thinking of getting a cat, the cat we've seen is 5 months old. Is this still classed as a kitten?

We're worried how she will settle and how we build a bond with her. Any tips?

Do everything your new master or mistress requires and a bond will develop!
Where have you “seen” this cat? Avoid gumtree etc. Could well be someone trying to ditch a pregnant female.
