Kitten arriving Saturday

My ex sil cat had 5 kittens, one died Sad, my brother is having one and my dad is collecting a little boy for me on Saturday.

I have had cats all my life and currently have a girl who is 7 and a boy who is 9 and very lazy.

My question is, the mum rejected the kittens so they have been hand reared, apparently our kitten loves cuddles, will he be different in behaviour to a kitten who stayed with their mum?

Thank you.

Our cat was a rescue and wasn't with his mother as long as he should have been. The only behavioural thing we've noticed is blanket suckling on occasion which I think can be linked to early separation. He still does it now age 1 year.

TopBitchoftheWitches · 13/09/2018 17:20

Thank you !

I'll get him a blanket for his bed then.

Yes, the suckling, kneading and chewing is indicative of early separation. You'll be their mum forever Smile

TopBitchoftheWitches · 13/09/2018 17:32

Aww, that sounds quite sweet actuallly Smile

Oh yeah, good point. Shock

I have 4 teenagers here though so maybe he'll adopt one of those as a parent 🤞

My kitten’s mum died when she was tiny - with me since she was six weeks. She does the sucking thing a lot - loves fleece blankets. I got four grey spotty ones form pets at home and they are washed in rotation😊

She likes more human company than my last cat did. And sleeps very close to me. She is four months now and will cry if she is in a different room until I join her!

TopBitchoftheWitches · 13/09/2018 18:53

And there was me thinking I could leave him to sleep in the kitchen until he is bigger, that's not going to happen is it?

What do you wash the blankets in? Just plain hot water?

My boy was hand reared from a few days old, by foster lady, not me. He’s not what I’d call a ‘normal’ cat 😄 Cuddles are only on his terms, and quite rare. I swear he has ADHD as he is always on the go. He’s also very, very food oriented as he was starving for at least a couple of days before being found.
My girl was removed from her mum too soon, so although she’s more ‘normal’ she does suckle her leg when feeling needy.

Dollymixture22 · 13/09/2018 19:13

I out the blankets through a hot wash with a little bit of detergent.

I put a litter tray upstairs, and water and some dry food for midnight snacks. She slept on my pillow for the first couple of weeks. Needed a stool to get up and down off the bed! She now sleeps under he bed - right below my head!

She has adopted a teddy which she carried around like a baby.

TopBitchoftheWitches · 13/09/2018 19:33

I did think of adding a stuffed toy to his bed, so I'll do that.

I think, after reading the above, I'll have him in my room for a while, I'll get a bed, blanket and litter tray plus bowls for in there.

The girl cat usually sleeps in my boys room and the boy cat in my girls room. They already have a litter tray which they quite happily share.

I am going to be a cat servant again !

Oh yes , you are there for them not the other way round. Love them to bits.

Fluffycloudland77 · 13/09/2018 19:43

Our cat milk paddles and sucks an invisible dummy in his sleep but didn't leave mum till he was 17 weeks old.

TopBitchoftheWitches · 14/09/2018 09:11

This kitten is 9 weeks old, quite excited for tomorrow now Grin

OMG! Those cute feet! Sweet

EachandEveryone · 15/09/2018 20:22

Oh my he’s so tiny!! What’s his name?

TopBitchoftheWitches · 15/09/2018 20:28

He doesn't have one yet. My teens are back from their dads tomorrow so I'll let them decide on his name.

Tonight is just about him settling in.

He is so funny though, plays with everything !

He's so cute. Has he eaten yet?

TopBitchoftheWitches · 16/09/2018 07:59

Yes he ate last night and this morning. He has used both his trays as well 👍
I woke up during the night to him sleeping behind my neck which was sweet.
He is currently playing with a feather toy he likes to drag around the living room.
He will be meeting the dog in a little while. Obviously dog is fine with cats but I don't think he has seen a dog before.
