Yes, really! And not just one lick either, it's a full on wash. Usually your hands/arms but if she can get to your face then you're fair game. Usually my 8 year old (who is worshipped by the cat) gets it but I am also fair game.

This is also the cat that loves to meet new people especially if their lap is available for cuddles. Regards fish, ham and cheese as poison and unless you've shut the bathroom door and then wedged it close because she can open the door you'll be sharing your tub with the cat.

Is it usual to be licked by a cat purring loudly or are we just giant cats in need of a good wash?

You're so lucky. Your cat sounds lovely! Ours is an aloof asshole who only tolerates our existence when we feed him his ridiculously expensive food.

We gave 2 cats - not true sisters, but from same breeder and litter "sisters" if you like
Brown spotted one is soooo happy!!! And a complete joy!! But a home cat -and lives to be near us - BUT not on lap - yet!
Meanwhile the grey striped one is an outside cat - but comes home by 9 to cuddle on back room chair - but doesn't like to be stroked or picked up - and is fairly quiet - but at least after 5 years has stopped "knifing" us!!
So just go with the love!!!!

One of my cats tries to wash me, but only if my arm pits are smelly and I need a shower! 🤢 funnily enough I had another cat that did this. Both cats are white tabby so perhaps it’s a white tabby cat thing? 😷

My other cat is a long haired tabby and she prefers kisses

I want to share a bath with a cat! Well jealous! Mine grooms my forehead / hairline every morning to say 'Good morning'. Anybody watching would think I'm insane as we bump noses then I dip head so he can lick my forehead. Doesn't do it any other time!

My snuggly little 2yo ginger licked the inside of my nose today. That was a bit startling, she's usually more huggy than licky.

My parents cat licks my dads glasses and his ears. He doesn't do it to anyone else. Cheddar pats my face. It's so cute!

I get washed several times a day. And then chewed. The wash is cute, even the nibble like when he's doing his paws is cute. The pinning my arm down and biting I'm less keen on!

I'm getting my own back today though - it's de-fleaing day today.

No-one wants to share a bath with a cat. They have claws!

We are regularly licked here. I think it is when she tries to lick our lips it is the worst, especially if she has recently 'greeted her brother's bottom!'

I had one that sucked my earlobes! He'd drape himself round my neck and suck on an ear while kneading my neck, we think he was taken away from his mum too early(or he was just weird), best cat in the world though.

The current cat bites your face if you're a bit slow to fuss her, which isn't quite as nice.

Mine licks me sometimes when I'm just out the shower. Not very often but occasionally. Doesn't do it to anyone else but she is 'my' cat.

@bushtailadventures mine does the ear sucking too! Get his tongue right in there and has a nibble. He's extremely persistent and clings on like a monkey.

I thought he'd grow out of it but he's six now and still loves it 😔

Bush one of my cats would suck on my neck when a kitten then moved on to sucking my jumper sleeve while kneading my arm😀

All my cats have licked me at one time or another when on my lap. Even my semi feral one who only liked affection on her terms and would claw you if you overstepped the mark😀 but would sit sleeping on your lap for ages and moan if you dared to move

One of mine gives me a good hand wash sometimes if she's feeling particularly in love with me.

Worst is when she tried to lick inside my ears. She has an earwax obsession and it's the weirdest sensation having purring/whiskers near your ear, I can't even let her skiff my ear for more than a second without getting freaked out.

The other one will only lick me if there's something edible to lick off.

My Dad's cat used to sit on the back of the chair and groom his hair...full on grooming
