Anyone else’s cat throw up every morning?

It’s brown with some hair balls in it mostly, very occasionally it’s foam and occasionally there’s not so much hair ball in it. She has been doing this on and off for a while, as in over a year, but recently it’s almost every morning - never during the day.

I took her to the vet a while ago and they suggested brushing and smaller portions of food which helped temporarily. I had booked a few appointments at the vet recently, including today, but again has been due to emergency operations. I have also recently bought James Wellbeloved anti hair ball biscuits, but these don’t seem to help. She seems absolutely fine in every other way.

Does any one have any experience of this? Thank you.

I have an elderly cat doing similar. We think he might have irritable something syndrome. Trying steroids to see if he improves.

My cat does this, though it’s always her breakfast she brings up, not fur. The only thing which helps our cat is feeding breakfast in two or three very small portions at least half an hour apart.
She has a snack of dry food at lunchtime and a smallish dinner, which is seldom thrown up, then another snack to get her in at bedtime.
I know most people aren’t around to feed this way but with ours it stops the dog waiting for every cat meal to be dumped at his feet, moments after cat has swallowed it!

Yes, we had this exactly with our cat and it turned out to be a symptom of kidney disease. Sounds like a blood test might be helpful.

My cat used to do similar. It was always a minute or 2 after eating. Usually at tea time. Fine in all other ways. We tried the anti hairball paste but then twigged that it was because she's greedy and gobbles her food. We got round it by spreading her usual portion of food across a much larger plate. It forced her to slow down and solved the problem almost instantly...
Could this maybe be what your cat is doing?

Oh no, GreyClouds, that is my fear. Wine, I don’t think it’s because she gobbles her food, as it is always in the morning and she would have last eaten around 10 hours or so before it. I have tried giving smaller portions to no avail.

My cat is only three and has always done it so it’s not kidney disease. I think maybe her stomach is too small for a normal amount of food.

My cat makes herself sick daily, she eats grass and is sick within minutes, brings up mostly foam, and fur. She then has a pooh, comes inside for breakfast, up to bed for a wash and a loooong sleep, it's her morning routine and has been since a kitten, she is now 10

Mine often does it at breakfast but rarely at dinner (perhaps she's hungrier in the morning and gobbles faster?). The food which comes up - a mixture of biscuits and wet food - is completely unchewed which suggests it's due to the speed of eating rather than anything more sinister. It's very annoying when you're rushing to get out the house in the morning!

Is your cat eating through the night? Cats need to eat every 3-4 hours. We had this same problem recently and it was where she was going out overnight and not eating regularly enough, gorging herself in the morning on an empty stomach and throwing it all back up! Started leaving food out in safe spaces and it's sorted

It’s before she eats any breakfast. She is mostly an indoor cat, but when she occasionally goes out all she does is eat grass, then promptly throws up with the grass being visible in it. She is 8 years old.

It is really annoying, having to keep most doors closed for fear she will throw up in carpeted rooms, beds etc! I think blood tests are definitely required, need to get to the bottom of it. Mustn’t be pleasant for her either.
