Hi, we have a rescue cat who we have had for 2 years now. He was very nervous for a long time, but I have worked with him and hes like a normal cat now, he even came out and wanted petting when we had 18 people round for a BBQ 2 weeks ago.

He came litter tray trained, but we have taught him to go to the loo outside and I haven't changed the litter tray in months as I don't need to. We have a cat flap so he always get in or out.

Hes started pooing on the floor in the last 2 weeks and I cant work out whats wrong with him and how I can stop him doing this. I thought it might be that he had fleas, so I treated him 10 days ago, and its still happening.

Has anyone got any ideas or advice please?

Any new cats around? Do you still have the litter tray?

Is he pooing near doors by any chance? Front door or back door? I had a cat (rescue, previously neglected and estimated to be 15) and he started doing it when we moved house. I googled it and it said that it could be that there's a lot of outside threats (there's a lot of cats around this area) so he was marking his territory by the door. It this is the case I recommend you putting something like tin foil down in that area as cats hate the sound of it so won't go on there.

My cat sadly also had the runs eventually though which was cancer, we lost until him in June 😞 cx

My cat pooed all over when I got him and it was because he had an infection of some sort. Take him to the vets for a check up OP.
Also I'd wash out the old tray and put some new litter in,to encourage him to go in there instead of round the house.

My boy poops outside his tray when he’s getting constipated, he particularly likes the bath or sofa. Apparently it’s because of it’s hurting to go, then they like either a cold or soft surface to do it on.

I’d take him to the vet just to be sure - I recognise the signs now so give him catalax at home, but some of the symptoms can be similar to a uti so best get it checked.
