I rehomed a Maine Coon from a breeder about 2 months ago. I basically just paid for the cost of her to be spayed as she wasn’t suitable for their breeding programme like they’d hoped. They said it was due to a tail fault, but I have a sneaking suspicion it’s because she’s absolutely insane. Wink

I love her to bits, she’s hilarious and clever and absolutely adorable but I’m struggling. She’s only 2, and I know that Maine Coons are kitten-like for a lot longer, but she’s hard work.

The main thing that bothers me though is her biting. It’s only me she does it to, so I don’t know if I’m doing something to provoke her. She’s only just started doing it in the last couple of weeks, and only to me. She sidles on up like she wants a cuddle, then out of nowhere tries to bite me. Even if I don’t touch her, so I don’t think it’s over stimulation.

She’ll grab arms, chew knees, she’s even bit my boob before Hmm I have no idea how to get her to stop.

I always remove whatever body part she’s chewing on and tell her no, then turn my back on her. Sometimes she’ll bite the back of my clothes and pull on those so then I leave the room, and she follows and wails at the door like she’s being terribly mistreated. I don’t come back until she stops crying.

50% of the time it works, the other 50% she cracks on ready to rinse and repeat. We don’t play if she’s bitten, so I don’t think she’s doing it to ask to play. I don’t think it’s malicious, she doesn’t break the skin, but it’s not okay. She’s a pretty big cat and I don’t want her doing this to any visiting DC.

She is indoor only and has plenty of toys, a cat tree, things to scratch, lots of house to run around and she gets a good hour or so of interactive play and I talk to her all day and let her watch me cook. She isn’t ever left alone for very long, probably 3-4 hours max and she isn’t destructive or anything when we’re gone. She has no interest in going out, she hides when we open the doors. I kind of wish she’d go play in the garden to give me a break Confused

Part of me thinks she might benefit from another cat, but I don’t know if she’d absolutely hate that. She was a totally different cat when we met her, really submissive with the other two she lived with, she’s come out of her shell since being an only cat but she’s also a total shithead Grin if it backfired and they didn’t make friends I don’t know what we’d do. DH isn’t on board with another, I don’t think it would be fair on the second cat to only be half wanted.

I just want to be able to have bare arms in my own home without getting beaten up!!Grin
