What do you feed your kittens and cats?

My two new babies (5 month old kittens) have come to us on Felix kitten pouches and Purina One kitten dry. My last two were on supermarket cheap stuff and got to age 17/18, so I guess never did them any harm, but I know more consideration is given to cats diets these days, with some trying to avoid sugars/cereals, so just interested to know what others are on.

Anything grain free... I try to alternate a bit between brands so they don't get too picky or dependant on just one food. Our regulars at the moment for the youngsters are Arden Grange dry, Almo Nature complete wet pouches, Encore cans and some Pure freeze died food you dehydrate yourself by adding water. Occasionally MACs wet food but they don't like it much.

Senior girls is on Animonda renal wet food, it's also grain free.

Cheap Sainsbury's sachets. Two a day. And she is a happy healthy 9yo British shorthair!!

viccat, where do you buy the Pure from? I've never come across this.

intuition - I did some across a post recently saying that Sainsburys sachets are one of the better supermarket brands.

I've only got one cat now, and he had 3 meals a day..... usually Purina or Sheba pouches, but a couple of times a week I replace one pouch for steamed chicken, and at weekends he has tinned sardines or tuna in oil. I also buy a turkey leg from Asda and cook it in a slow-cooker once a month.

He has Purina dry food down at all times - and water, of course.

Our lad has Thrive wet and dry, we have gone for high meat content and grain free. We fed our old girl Hills Science plan (or whatever it's now called) thinking it was good. She had triaditis and I realise the IBD part could have been triggered from the grains in the food (no idea what she ate before we adopted her) so am being careful. Also avoid any wet food in jelly or gravy as it's bad for the teeth.

Royal canin persian. It suits them well and they are healthy. Though royal canin isn't approved of on the litter tray!

Mine is 3, and will only eat Purina Gourmet, Dreamies and Whiskas Biscuits. Occasional tinned Tuner.

Oddly.....She has some bizarre food habits though. If we have Chip Shop chips, she actually loses her mind. Will try and 'whack' them from plates with her paws and continuously whine till we give her a Chip. She then likes to carry it about the house for a good half hour, before eating it and coming back. We have actually woke up in the morning before now, and she has taken chips from the bin and hid them under the dinning table. At first I assumed it was the fish....but the fussy moo won't touch cod!

Tuna even :)

Boy cat is a bit of a fuss pot. He eats Purina dry and refuses all wet food. He will tolerate some cooked chicken or duck so he gets that once a week or so, but he only ever has a little nibble.

Girl cat eats anything. She has the same dry as her brother and we rotate her wet food. We currently have Felix doubly delicious, hi life and Lily's kitchen on the go. She was massively into Sainsbury's grain free but seemed to go off it so we're giving it a break. She seems to prefer variety. If she has more than three pouches the same she stops eating it! She also gets cooked meat as well.

Boycat is always offered wet (especially when we try a new brand) and won't entertain any of it. He is a true creature of habit I think!

Natures menu and encore/applaws with Royal Canin Oral biscuits

Lilly’s kitchen wet and dry, applaws and thrive wet sometimes for variety. All kitten food

Encore dry biscuits and the encore tins every other day. Also use Lily's kitchen dry food or Applaws to mix it up a bit. Aiming for grain free as the vet stressed to us its awful for cats.

Primarily Felix pouches and iams dry food, (plus mice, voles, shrews, porridge and anything they can steal) - my previous generation of cats lived to 17 and 20 so didn't do too badly on it.

Whiskas pouches and Iams dry food. Also keen on helping DH when he has scrambled egg.
