Another cat escaped and gone missing thread

Moved house last Tuesday. Have been taking cat out in the new garden with a harness and lead on to familiarise himself with the location. Is a notoriously outdoor cat and loves to be outside. On Friday he was miaowing by door to be let out, so on Saturday with our supervision we let him roam garden.

However friends came over with their dog and although cat wasn’t too frightened of dog (he’s met them before) he ran upstairs where we thought he’d hide.

Turns out he escaped out of an open window. Cannot find him anywhere and live opposite main road. I’ve walked for miles and miles for hours with his food and treats and nothing. Both late in evening and first thing in morning.

To add to panic we go away on holiday for 2 weeks on Wednesday. He’s due in cattery on Tuesday afternoon. Have left litter tray and his blanket outside to scent him home. He is chipped and registered as missing and have shared on local fb groups. Any other ideas?

You could:

Ring around all the local vets, also RSPCA.

print off some flyers, preferably with the cat's photo on - put them through all letterboxes, and on lampposts, in shop windows too.

Put a notice in your local newspaper.

I did all of those things when one of mine went missing a few years ago - she turned up at home, 4 days later, as though nothing had happened. Good luck.

Any chance he could be trying to get back to the old house, is it far. Hope he comes home soon. He's not sitting on the roof or in a tree.

Old house is a long, long way away. So doubt that. And as far as we can see not on a roof or in a tree. He has loudest miaow and I know I’d hear it and recognise it if I was him!

Keep posting on online sites.

We've just had our cat returned (after nearly 3 weeks AWOL) through Petsreunited. The man who returned him saw a cat hanging around and looked online on PR, saw a match that looked like our cat then called us.
He wasn't on the local FB groups so wouldn't have seen our posts there. He also wouldn't have seen our posters as he was 2 miles away!
And the cats collar (which had our contact details) had come off too.

Hang in there and fingers crossed...

You've done all the right things. Is there anyone you could ask to check if he's home whilst you're away? I'd say he's gone on a long walkabout and won't be back until he's good and ready. It's not unusual for that to happen, especially with cats who love to be outside. Hope he's back with you very soon.
