Almost 12 months ago I asked Our local Cats Protection if they had any elderly cats we could adopt. They had two and one was an elderly stray who had been temporarily looked after by a dog loving, non cat liking lady. She treated after her very well for two weeks and I can only thank her for all her kindness.
So Millie came into our lives and what a little madam she was! Wouldn’t answer to her name, well, she didn’t know it and I don’t think she could hear it! Was estimated to be about 15 years old, had most of her teeth removed early on in our relationship and was left with just one, and totally refused to tolerate our other, even older new adoptee , so they had to be kept separate.
Today, after almost a year, we had to say goodbye to her. Diagnosed with cancer two weeks ago, our vet said, ‘take her home and spoil her!’......nothing new there then. She spent today in the garden but later this afternoon, she started falling over and looked confused. She wasn’t eating well this week and hardly drinking and I looked into her eyes and knew the time had come.
So goodbye Millie Moo. I never saw a cat so determined to enjoy herself, despite the fact that she hated most things!
She left us without a fight, just curled up in my arms, not even an indignant miaow. So dignified and so missed already. Rest in peace lovely girl.
