Neutering kittens

I have just refined two male kittens from a rescue/rehoming charity

They are about 3 months old

At what age should they be neutered? Does it make a difference that they’re both male?

I'm surprised the rehoming centre hasn't already neutered them. Cats Protection and RSPCA often neuter from 8 weeks old.

I had to get mine done at about 3 months. He had started humping his blanket - with a happy ending. Vet nurse said it was unethical before a certain age (really?). Spoke to the vet and had him neutered. I was lucky in that he hadn't sprayed or developed a horrible habit.
