Giving tablets to the cat

Cat has been diagnosed with hyperthyroidism, she is 12. An hoping she will be a candidate for the operation but until the has tablets twice a day. She is a feisty madam, even vet struggled to get blood from her.

It's been a week since we started meds and she now hates me. Won't even come to me for food or strokes and hides upstairs as much as possible. (We have to wrap her in a blanket and pill popper squirt the pill down her throat - and even this is hard work, refuses all other method like wrapping pill in food!)

Will she just get used to it and forgive me? Or I am deemed to be the hated slave forever more?

Feliway and tuna all the way I think. Act guilty and full of penance and see how that goes.

Get pill pocket or pill paste treats! I use Greenies Pill Pockets from Amazon with mine - totally worth the price as my feisty tortie loves them and will eat her tablet in the treat no problems.

There's also another medication for hyperthyroidism - Vidalta - which is a one a day tablet unlike the two a day Felimazole. Some vet's seem to choose Felimazole instead but usually Vidalta is a good option if giving two pills is an issue; ask your vet.

You can use a liquid thyronorm instead of felimazoke tablets which cats seem to love the taste of or though off license appears to work well on food

I found getting Fatty in to the lounge and shutting the door the easiest way. Then grap her and shove them down with the pill popper worked well. However she was exceptionally well behaved and never deliberately spat them out. Good job as she was on 4 tablets at night and in the morning. It seems really strange not to have to do it anymore!

My young cat recently had a 6 week course of pills. Hiding them in food only ever worked on the first attempt - after a bit of trial and error ie finding pieces of spat out tablets on the floor, I found coating them in prawn flavoured primula then putting them over his throat worked best for us

Lol. @Allergictoironing never ever had that much drama with fatty. She was an angel! But I did have suspicions as to her feline credentials!

That's been around for yonks, over a decade that I can recall. I don't know anyone who has cats who hasn't at least giggled at it

Oh man I think we may be at least half way down that list!
