Why does she do this?

Cheddar constantly pats my face with her paw every time she sits on me. I've never ever known another cat do this. Any ideas why or what it means?

It's an affection thing. My DBro & SiLs old cat used to do it, gently pat you on the cheeks or nose. Was really sweet - apart from the times she would get get radar a bit wrong & the recipient would end up with a claw up their nostril! Shock

They looked on it as a sign that the cat accepted the person as a friend.

Mine does it, he lies on his side with his head on my chest and pats my face every so often.

Claw up the nostril is as bad as claw in the nipple when he's under the duvet milk paddling on me.

I know a cat that does that. He's very needy and craves attention so I've always seen it as a "Cooeeeee! Don't forget I'm here!!" action.

It's a reminder that you are owned. Grin

Spongecat pats me when she wants her head rubbed.

She is incredibly needy. She's a nightmare if she hops into the bed at night. As she's incapable of a quick snuggle and then settling down for a snooze. I get rolled on, kneaded, walked on, rolled off. Rinse and repeat!!
But omg she's so adorable!!

Pop a fleece on the bed, mine forsakes me for a fluffy fleece.

Toddlerteaplease · 26/08/2018 15:00

Tried that. She ignored it! She seems uninterested in textures. Fatty adored fleece or a towel. Got her to start sitting on my knee by using a towel. Cheddar likes the leather sofa. (Ignoring the huge cushion put there for her comfort)
