Old cat and rescue dog?

I have two cats one aged 11 and one 12. I'm thinking of getting a rescue dog who is cat tested.
But my DH thinks it's a bad idea and that I should wait for the cats to go over the rainbow bridge before introducing a dog.
Could be years before I have a dog. Youngest cat comes from a long line of long lived felines!

Are the cats dog tested, I think it's a lovely idea.

I wouldn't call a cat old at 11! Old girl lived to be 19.
As she was old and arthritic and had other health issues we did wait. We got kittens and then the dog a year or so after.
If the cats wouldn't mind and are fit enough to leap out of the way that could be different.

There is a dog next door and the cats aren't too bothered. It's different on their own territory I suppose.

Can the dog do a day visit, see how they get on or if it's a rescue centre can kitties visit pooch to see how they get on. You might be lucky and they all become friends.

I wouldn't take the cats to a rescue centre. A very high stress situation for them. Especially if they don't like travelling. Know anyone with a calm dog who could visit on lead?
