Getting A New Rescue Cat, Excited!

Just that.
My second cat is coming home soon, hopefully on Wednesday.
Grin
So happy.
Feeling a bit emotional about Madam BrokenCat though, hope she'll react ok. Giving her lots of attention and love, reassured her she'll always be pfc. HmmSmile
Hoping they'll love each other.
Food bowls and toys bought for new addition...Mademoiselle? I'm sure she'll get her own nickname or six. Setting up a little safe corner for her with cardboard box with blanket, toys, scratcher etc.
She's 3, tortie and white, has had a bit of a terrible time in rescue but has happily been with her original rescuer someone well known who I shall not name Wink for a bit and is apparently a lovely affectionate chilled cat.
Have shown her photo to Madam who looked...curious. Told her to welcome her new sister.
Eeeeeeeeek!

Here is Madam on my lap, purring away until I dared to take a photo, and then deciding she needs tummy pets

Aww that's lovely. Glad I'm not the only one who's been having those conversations with resident cats!

Broken11Girl · 21/08/2018 02:14

Haha, yep Grin

Good luck with your new girl and Madam. Its a nerve-wracking timeConfused

EachandEveryone · 21/08/2018 13:49

I think I know and I may have even met her myself Wink she is gorgeous. Has your big girl noticed yet?

BertrandRusselI · 21/08/2018 13:51

Ah, Madam and Mademoiselle BrokenCat. Best wishes for a happy home.

Broken11Girl · 21/08/2018 18:38

Thanks all Smile
Ah East Wink yes Madam knows something is going on, cats are so intuitive.

So she's here Smile very gorgeous and let me pet her a bit. She explored the living room, where she will be confined for a while, and seemed happy enough, but is now hiding behind the sofa.
Madam is distinctly unimpressed Hmm Grin unfortunately I also managed to catch a stone shutting the back door, which made an awful screeching noise and scared her, hope she's not going to create a bad association with her new sister Sad. She hid but is on the bed happily enough now.
Feel so torn between welcoming new cat and reassuring existing one, have been and will be between both rooms this evening. I know they'll be settled in no time but it feels otherwise.

I 'lost' her! She was behind the sofa, then she wasn't. Was sure I'd kept the door shut but practically had a heart attack thinking she had snuck past and leapt out of the one window that was open, which is very high and above the kitchen sink...looked everywhere I could think of that a cat might hide, no sign of her...was thinking this was the new Marie Celeste or passenger missing from cruise mystery...caught a glimpse of fur on a bottom shoe shelf, thought hang on, I put my winter boots away...yes, she's sitting on my shoes Grin 😅

Grin I can't count the number of cats I've 'lost' in a locked room. Often they just reappear and I never discover where they were hiding. It's quite a skill.

Broken11Girl · 23/08/2018 02:35

Grin they are masters at it.
She's out and exploring now, has had a bit of food, used the litter tray and allowed a few strokes but is mainly curious (as she was earlier). Pleased she seems so relatively confident.

She's exploring every inch of the room, and had a play. With toys, not of the piano. We may have a musical one as she was interested though Grin

She's climbing everywhere and looking out of the windows. Such a curious energetic little thing. Madam is definitely more sedate, being older.
I need to go to bed, should have ages ago, but I want to be with her to start settling her in now she's come out.

It's lovely that she's playing. Cats have to feel relax to play.

thecatneuterer · 23/08/2018 09:49

relaxed

ifonly4 · 23/08/2018 11:29

Thanks for the updates. I'm adopting to older kittens in just over a week, so it's interesting to know their confidence can develop quite soon.

Toddlerteaplease · 23/08/2018 11:33

Took me ages to work out where Fattycat was when I first bought her home. (3 years today) She was hidden in the gap under the kitchen units. I had no idea there was a gap there. Once in she was completely unreachable. Cheddar also found the same gap, but she comes out for treats!!

Toddlerteaplease · 23/08/2018 11:34

Fatty hid for 8 days, Cheddar hid for 8 hours!!

Allergictoironing · 23/08/2018 18:39

Mine found a way to get inside the sofa from the back - took me ages to work out where they were until I realised there was a bulge there Grin

thecatneuterer · 23/08/2018 19:05

How is she now OP? And did you get any sleep?

Broken11Girl · 23/08/2018 21:32

Lovely to hear hiding stories Grin
Aw that must be difficult, I'm sorry about Fatty again toddler
I did get some sleep.
Madam was having a huge sulk and not talking to me (literally, she's very vocal) but has relented somewhat today.
Mademoiselle is still intermittently hiding if anything spooks her or I leave the room, but has played more, eating and using the litter tray. She's coming for strokes and even purred briefly.
They've had a few yowling and hissing matches through the door, both keep sidling up looking nervous and backing away again. They're more wary of each other than aggressive.
