Cat attacking me!

ladybird69 · 29/07/2018 04:09

Hi can I have your thoughts about my cats strange behaviour. He’s an only cat, a ginger tom of roughly 9/10. I had trouble with him spraying on me, luckily that stopped but now he attack’s me! He locks on with mouth front and back claws and leaves me bruised and bleeding. No provocation. I’m even in bed, he’ll come in calling to me in the middle of the night then he just jumps on my bed and savages which ever arm is out of the covers. He isn’t a very friendly cat, doesn’t like strangers ie my friends come in he goes out. My friends are appalled that I put up with this behaviour and keep telling me to get him rehomed to a farm or stables! They say he’ll probably be happier and he actually is a hunter not a lap/ cuddly cat. I think that I know the answer but anyone have any ideas? Sad

You say tom cat, is he neutered?

NinkyNonk1 · 29/07/2018 04:46

This sounds like my Tom cat so I will follow if that's okay? I've had mine since a kitten and he was neutered at around 4ish months old. Everyone says he's evil! He can be really lovely with me then the next minute he's turned around a bit me.

Have a read of this.

It's quite a long read bit could be useful.

Have you taken him to the vet and discussed his behaviour with them?

ladybird69 · 29/07/2018 14:24

Hi yes he was neutered as a kitten. He’s an outdoorsy cat very rarely comes in and he keeps the local rat and mice community down single handily!
Sounds similar ninky mine comes in all sweet and kissy kissy then just attack for no reason I don’t even need to be touching him. No I haven’t taken him to the vet perhaps I should do now to show vet the latest attack bites and bruises that are from my elbow down to my wrist where he literally clamped down on my whole arm. I have tried feliway plugins etc and they don’t work.

I would go to the vet, cats don't normally do this sort of thing.

LanguidLobster · 29/07/2018 17:05

Does he break skin? Mine used to like clamping her jaws around me but it was when she felt affectionate (didn't feel so at the time!! I used to freeze and hope she didn't clamp down too much).

If he's breaking skin/harming you, you need professional advice about his behaviour.

Fluffycloudland77 · 29/07/2018 17:07

Actually twice this week ours has been told "we don't bite our mommy do we?" so maybe it's the heat.

He did it all the time prior to castration.

LanaorAna2 · 29/07/2018 22:09

Mr C has been very bitey in the heat.

ladybird69 · 29/07/2018 23:20

He does nibbly affectionate bites. But no this is claws out teeth clamped onto arm which results in scratches puncture wounds and bruises ☹️ He’s always been like it but he is getting worse as he’s getting older. Only once or twice a month but always out of nowhere! His ears go right back and he pounces sometimes I get the chance to jump out of the way. He’s laying next to me now and I love him so much but I am scared of him.
