Cat not eating

Hello all,

My cat has gone off his food it seems. He is a very outdoor cat and has unlimited access to his cat flap so it's fairly usual in summer to not see him for the entire day, he roams around and just returns to eat. But he has been leaving his food. He has complete dry food and one sachet of wet food, mainly for taste really, per day but he is barely touching either. He's known to be picky and will only eat certain brands but this is his favourite brand and he isn't touching it. I can't be sure but I think he's lost a bit of weight too so I don't think he is being fed elsewhere. He is otherwise a very healthy young cat.

Could it be worms? He is de wormed at the vets but we have swapped vets recently so has gone overdue with this.

Or could it be the heat maybe?

My cats have periods when they go off their food for no apparent reason then after wasting money buying different types of cat food that they turn their nose up invariable go back to eating when they are ready.
My cats eat less in summer. I wouldn’t rush to vets if cat seems generallly in good spirits.
Worming will be very important to do regularly especially if they hunt.My vets says every 6 months. I have given up trying to worm them myself and take them to the vets when getting their flea treatment.

Thanks @Celticdawn5.

Yes he is overdue by a couple of months so I will get that done as soon as. He does hunt!! It could be because of the heat. He is otherwise healthy it seems and doesn't have any other symptoms of worms so hopefully it's just a phase.

I do think the heat is significant as mentioned above.
I have one who has not eaten today and I’m keeping an eye on her.

Yes it must be so hot for him but he will not come in to cool down. Nothing will stop that cat from his roaming!!

I also think that sometimes whatever they have hunted and eaten can disagree with their digestion.

My cats doing the same she just sniffs at her food and walks away. Shes a grazer to be fair. I think its the heat and when i put her food down she eaten a bit tonight after me worrying all day.Confused

My older cat ive seen her eating her catches but still eats her food.As long as your cats drinking i would not worry

This is the thing, I've no idea if he drinks or not as he very, very rarely drinks from his bowl. I assume he drinks from puddles or whatever he can find outside as he has never really been interested in his water bowl. I always fill it with fresh water nevertheless.

Caught him drinking from the kids' paddling pool last week!

Well he hasn't touched his food but caught him eating the kids' leftover cereal so I'm guessing he is just being fussy?
