Dcat is 13ish. Lost a third of a body weight. Blood tests and urine sample and they've diagnosed mild kidney disease, but said the level shouldn't cause this level of weight loss.
Changed from dry to wet food and she has maintained weight over the last fortnight.
However, I noticed frequent urination in the garden and even straining to go on the path, followed by dragging her backside along the grass.
I suspected cystitis, which was what the emergency vet thought yesterday and she is being treated as such. Drinking loads. Hasn't lost her appetite.
I need to ring the vet tomorrow. Urine sample showed her urine is very dilute. Wondering if she is going to start having these infections more frequently and if it would be kinder to think about pts. She is due to go into a cattery on Thurs, which also concerns me as she won't be monitored in the same way as I would be.

Did they test her for diabetes, that can cause dilute urine and thirst. Is she dragging her bottom and straining to have a poo or a wee.

I think so, they sent the sample off. She was straining to wee. Don't think she's passed faeces unless it's been outside when I wasn't there. She usually would overnight as I keep her in.

Sounds similar to my cats behaviour sometimes. They don't like their good bring changed & that scooting is her trying to get relief.

I buy metacalm from my vet & give her a quick measured squirt to relieve this, it's unusually from some food stress ie 1 day we put the dog bowl near her food & she got all agitated.
I'd give her dry food back, maybe add some water to it & also off wet with a little bit of extra water. We normally have chicken stock so I add that.
Also you can buy a powder called Ipaktine which is a blocker (phosphorus?) which doesn't strain the kidneys. Other options are mince cooked in some water & that offered.
Good she feels better soon.,
