What to do with cats when going travelling

Hi asking for a friend. She has the opportunity to work abroad for a year but has two cats and no family willing to take them on. Are there any long term foster type homes she can pay for? Or has anyone else been in the situation and what did they do? Absolutely no chance of taking the cats abroad as it's a travelling job.

I've never heard of homes that take cats longterm, whilst their "slave" is away. I always take my cats with me when I move overseas. Maybe your local rescue knows of someone who might oblige?

As a vet I have come across various homes that have been let with pets in situ ranging from cats to goats. The owner pays the vets bills and food, the tenant gets slightly cheaper rent for caring for the pets.
If she is going to let her home this is an avenue she could explore.

A friend of my Mums put hers in a cattery for a couple of years when she was posted overseas (HM Forces).
