Cat behaving strangely post holiday

Hi everyone, just after a a bit of advice about my kitten (6 months old). We’ve just been on our first holiday since we’ve had her (10 days), and my brother and his girlfriend moved in to look after her (both of them have grown up with cats and have spent quite a bit of time with our kitten before). They have said she’s been great, eaten normally and behaved fine. However since we returned yesterday she won’t eat any cat food we give her and just generally seems a bit off. She will however eat treats, chicken and tuna (things that would normally be occasional treats, we’ve given them her so she’s eaten at least something). Is she just readjusting to us being back? Should we give her a couple of days and see if she comes round? Or is it an immediate vet job? I can’t help but panic as normally she would wolf any and all food down, and we love her so much 😔. Any advice / similar experiences much appreciated... thanks

At a rough guess - she's pissed of that you dared to go away and is letting her feelings about it be known. The fact that she's eating "treats" is all the info you need. She's got you exactly where she wants you 😂.

@YesItsMeIDontCare yes it does seem that way!! Just can’t help but worry as she’s never turned down food in the time we’ve had her... hopefully she will come round soon. Thanks 😊

Her slaves upped and left without asking her permission. How do you expect her to react? Can you imagine Lord Grantham would have been happy if the Downton staff had gone off on their jollies without asking him? Disgraceful behaviour for which you're now being punished!

(I'm sure you'll be forgiven eventually. But don't expect her to forget!)

A family friend had the most sleek and leggy black cat called Leroy.
He used to poo at her feet if she was late home!
Stunning cat though!

@Readyfortheschoolhols My boy is a Leroy!!! He is black and he is stunning, but I wouldn't describe him as leggy or sleek 😂. He doesn't poo at my feet though - he just meows at me 'til I follow him to the bathroom and talk to him while he poos in his tray 🙄.

She’s definitely punishing you. I used to have a cat exactly the same, wouldn’t look at me for days. My current cat does the exact opposite and insists on sleeping as close to my face as possible purring all night for the first two nights we get home after a holiday

Well she’s still wanting some attention (not as much as usual though) but steadfastly refusing to eat her food 😣 hoping she doesn’t hold out for long! Thanks for making me feel a bit better all..

Of course she wants attention - she wants to make absolutely sure you're fully aware of the extent of her displeasure.

Leroy goes a bit off his food in the heat so maybe that's a bit of a factor too though.

Sorry cat is a diva not you. Just get back to normal routine don't over shower her because she will milk it for lo her if she doesn't want her food because she is being stubborn just leave it she will so in eat when she is hungry and realises life gets back to normal haha

Daft question maybe but did your brother/gf use a different brand of cat food or more expensive/diff flavour? Did they give alternatives to anything you provided? Did the gf treat your cat to tuna, salmon etc on a daily basis as it was only temporary?!

@MozzieMagnet No we bought all the food for them before they went and she’s had exactly the same as normal. They didn’t give her anything except her normal food and a few dreamies!

She has gone on hunger strike but is filling herself up with treats and nice things . Also it is very hot here, is it hot where you are? my cats are not eating as much as usual because of the weather.

She’s now sat in front of the tv refusing to move..... she knows how to get to me 😂😂😂

Our cats sulk for a few days every time we get back from holiday, and generally give us the evils from across the room.

She is sulking, cats are very good at it, also your cat sitters may have over indulged on the treats a bit so now she thinks that's what she is getting.
Our cat sulks a lot too, she does what I call anger sh1ts where it's quite clearly a little nugget that's just been forced out onto the floor just to make a point!

Ha sounds like they have spoiled her. When Ern was catsit by DS1, he thought the Dreamiest were his food

other signs of her displeasure, usually a wee in your shoes, a mouse in your bag, or a dead bird puzzle left across the kitchen. Along with stealth farting every time you try to eat.

If they gave her Dreamies, then you're screwed! Dreamies are crack for cats. My two got a bag each for Christmas from the wee girls next door and when they were finally gone, I got evils for weeks, as I was not buying anymore. They also sulked for ages after I had had then in a cattery when I was away. Mind, it probably brought back nasty memories for them, too and it took a while for them to forgive me.

You've probably grovelled enough now. Time to let her just get on with normal eating. She won't starve herself.
