Cat insurance recommendations pls

Just had renewal from Tesco for our 5 year old moggie and its gone up massively to nearly £190 a year! The extra cost when added to our vet plan which has also gone up means I am going to have to cancel and look for cheaper insurance.

All I can find on the internet are horror stories about how insurance companies won't pay out so wondering if anyone can recommend their insurers and maybe offer any advice as I'm feeling rather confused by all the choices and options?!

You need to budget for insurance premiums to rise each year as they did rise with the age of the pet. Remember if you move company anything you have claimed for with the old company will be excluded by the new company.

Try getting a quite from Tesco as a new customer. Mine went down!

Yes, watch out for pre-existing conditions. We let ours lapse then started again at 5 years old, they required a printout of full medical history from the vet and have excluded several entire categories of ailments based on a very minor bit of skin irritation which I mentioned to the vet at last jabs and which had cleared by itself within 24 hours.

My Tesco car insurance went up to a ridiculous amount this year, so I did a comparison site & that came in as a new customer with Tesco at about a third. Called them up and suddenly my premiums went back down to a reasonable amount.

We are with animal friends for our two cats. Made a claim this year for tail amputation and had no problems with them paying out at all. I think we pay around £3.60 per month per cat.

I did call Tesco but they didn't offer me any discount at all - person on the phone was less than helpful or even interested in whether I cancelled or not!

I didn't think I could cancel and then take out a new insurance policy with Tesco?? What's especially galling is that the same policy is on comparison sites for half of what I'd be paying monthly for my new quote I would have stayed with Tesco ideally but really can't justify the sudden huge price hike.

My cat has no pre existing conditions and I've never claimed anything for her.

Will look into the others mentioned here - I had noticed Animal Friends have good deals!

We also have animal friends - have only had to claim once but they paid no problem. I have heard bad things about them though, but I think they're all much the same.... Our cat is quite old now so it'd be difficult for us to switch anyway.

Hi, bit late to this but Petplan were brilliant with our moggies for many years, paid out for pretty much everything. They weren't cheap though and the cost did go up as they got older (£35 per cat once they got to 16yo).

not had to claim but the initial customer service was brill - one of my cats is a recent Tripawd so needed to check what would / wouldn't be covered in terms of any complications or ongoing issue with the amputation.
