Mystery, cat disappeared. Chimney?

My cats were staying in my son's flat for a few days and when I went to collect them yesterday I seem to have lost one?! The missing one is very timid and not too athletic (they are indoor cats). Anyway, I looked everywhere and sadly no sign, flatmate just texted to say good & water are untouched overnight.

All doors & windows have been kept shut. Is it possible she's gone up the chimney?? I waited yesterday and took some pictures but couldn't see or hear anything.

Cats are ninjas - my bet is that she escaped as someone left the flat. Try taking her things and leaving them outside/around the flat. Cats arent as smell oriented as dogs but still do have a strkng sense of smell. If you leave food youll just be providing the locsl cats a free buffrt.

Try phoning vets in the area. If people see a strange cat in the area they often take them to the vets. Also facebook lost and found and local pages - looking for posts and post pictures.

I hope you find her Flowers

Any news @Normaknowall ?

AlexaAmbidextra · 15/07/2018 18:51

I think someone has been careless and let her out. ☹️ I would kill them. Angry

Apologies for lack of updates! Operation Catwatch is happening tonight. I'm at the flat. DS's flatmate realised that she was coming in through the open bathroom window when he saw paw prints around the toilet -- she'd been drinking from there! So he started leaving bowls of food out, which she's eaten, and he moves them further into the flat each night. So tonight I'm camped on the sofa ready to pounce. I was here Friday night and heard her eating but didnt actually see her, each time she sensed me moving she'd run. Fingers crossed for tonight!

Oh god what a palaver, naughty little thing! They're terrors for drinking out of toilets.

Hope she's caught tonight...😾

NicoAndTheNiners · 22/07/2018 22:11

So is she getting out the flat through the window and then coming back in?

LanguidLobster · 23/07/2018 00:10

How's catwatch going?

FabulousUsername · 23/07/2018 02:49

No sign of her yet. I'm wondering if this was a good idea, got to work tomorrow!

We have two sisters and one is very timid. When they first started going outside, the more confident of the pair would disappear for ages until I found the timid sister would do a good job of getting her sister home. Would it be worth having your other cat with you?

FabulousUsername · 23/07/2018 05:05

Update: I'm home. She came in about 3am to eat, I heard her crunching and went over, she ran out but I stayed talking to her through the window for ages. Finally got her in, had a cuddle then put her in the cat box & drove the hour home. Feeling a bit deflated after all the drama as her sister has been hissing at her so she ran off to hide in the sitting room, I've kept the hisser in the bedroom with me to give her space. Wow. I never thought it would happen!

Wonderful news! Guess she's an outdoor cat after all Grin

LanguidLobster · 23/07/2018 10:15

Brilliant :)

Hope work isn't too painful today!

YetAnotherSpartacus · 23/07/2018 11:17

Naughty girl! I'm glad she is home!

FabulousUsername · 23/07/2018 21:23

Haha she's earned a few badges for self sufficiency! Happy, in my lap doing her biscuit- making. She is probably a bit dehydrated, I was wondering if I should take her to the vets but I can't bear any more trauma! As far as I know she was on her own, certainly hasn't fought, I should probably giveherflea treatment. Just brushed so much for out of her coat, must have been so hot!!

Surreal day at work, going to bed early tonight!

I'm at the flat. DS's flatmate realised that she was coming in through the open bathroom window when he saw paw prints around the toilet -- she'd been drinking from there

But if she was coming in through this window then maybe that's how she got out?

EachandEveryone · 24/07/2018 13:43

Are you going to let her go out now that she has had a taste for it?

FabulousUsername · 24/07/2018 21:18

Spartacus they kept all the windows shut when the cats were there BUT it was crazy hot and I wondered if they'd slipped up for a moment! After I left & they assumed were catless they left windows open... We'll never know.

Each-- she did so well, I'm tempted to cut in a cat door& let them out. Where I live is more urban than my DS's place, I do t have my own garden. Neightbours have lovely gardens 😀
