My cat is missing

I’m so distraught and can’t concentrate on anything and was wondering if anyone can offer advice or reassurance?

My cat Holly vanished Saturday night. She is nearly 10 and hasn’t been that well lately, although the vets cannot find anything wrong apart from an infection which she had antibiotics for.

She is quite an anxious cat and over a month ago now we recently acquired a new kitten.

I think she has been really miserable since then, I give her loads of love and attention but she is barely eating and drinking and she just has not been happy.

I feel she is nearby but I’m so worried she has gone to die somewhere. I miss her so much and I feel it’s my fault for getting the kitten.

I’ve been callling her regularly, walked round the neighbourhood and posted some leaflets in the surrounding houses.

The weather has been so hot lately too which is probably contributing to her misery.

I was wondering if anyone has a similar story with a happy ending?

10 year old FatCat disappeared overnight on Saturday too.

I’ve emailed the local vets and have printed up posters and leaflets to post round the neighbourhood and was just coming to the Litter Tray to see if there’s anything else to do.

He has done this before and wandered back a day or so later but the heat worries me.

I hope you have some good news too. It’s hearbreaking.

@vickymj @soupdragon
It's awful when they disappear, my boy went missing for 3 or 4 days last year, and what worked for me was putting his dirty litter tray at the end of the garden path so he could smell 'his smell'.
I had put leaflets up in local shops and through all the neighbours doors but on the 4th day I put his litter tray out at about 7pm, and he was back at 2am, looking filthy and a bit skinnier
Really hope they turn up soon x

I’m hoping he’s just been “adopted”. He’s lost weight recently on a vet diet and does a very good impersonation of a starving stray.

Vickymj · 09/07/2018 14:26

Thank you so much @TheMagicTorch. I will try that.

My cat (similar age) vanished without trace back in April. Sadly we haven't found him, but I was very impressed by local cat groups on Facebook/Twitter. There are lots of actively looking cat lovers in my neighborhood, apparently. Have you had a search of those?

HyacinthsBucket70 · 09/07/2018 14:32

Try any local FB pages, and post their photo with your details. And try some posters on your neighbouring streets. And contact all the vet surgeries/cat rescues in your area to see if someone has taken them in.

Our neighbours lost their very frail elderly cat a few months back..... it was gone for 32 days. They thought the worst, but were sat eating their tea one night and in came the cat wowing his head off. He was very thin and dirty, so had been shut in somewhere.

TSSDNCOP · 09/07/2018 14:33

Yes! Do you have a local FB Page? She may have wandered into a shady garage or shed. One of mine disappeared for a week once and rocked back up the following Sunday when I imagine the person mowed their lawn again.

Thanks for your messages. I’m not great on using FB but will have a look

Sorry soup Sad

FabulousUsername · 10/07/2018 07:15

So sorry to hear that soup. Flowers
Hope others with missing kitties have good news.
Mine is missing (has done a disappearing trick) and I'm just realising the implications of being stuck with no water in this heat.

FabulousUsername · 10/07/2018 07:19

Also just wanted to add my other cat went missing for 3 weeks last year and I put out food & litter tray. She was visiting nightly but hiding and I got her back by waiting for her and calmly grabbing her-- happy ending!

russiandwarf · 10/07/2018 11:12

I think it's worth knocking on neighbours doors and posting leaflets even if you do it more than once. Last year my friend's cat was missing for about 10 days and we assumed the worst, but then they had a call from someone a few streets away saying they'd just found her in their spare room! They thought the dog must have chased her in and she was hiding under the bed and the door had been shut. They knew who to call because of the leaflet. I hope Holly turns up soon x

Thank you for all your messages and I’m sorry Soup that you had bad news.

My news is kind of mixed. She came back last night, she is so skinny and not eating. Took her to the vet this morning and he thinks she might have a blockage (Tumour) we won’t know until lots of tests etc, so we are just working out what to do with regards to costs.

But I am still so relieved she came home so we can take care of her.
