Advice on introducing cats to each other.

I have had cats for a number of years who were introduced were almost a year apart in age. Sadly one died a few months ago.

We are about to adopt a rescued cat. This cat has lived with other cats previously.

Would welcome any advice on how to introduce cats to each other and any tips that may help.

Thanks.

Feliway Friends

Separate litter trays - one per cat and a spare

Separate feeding areas

High places to escape

All I can think of for now! Good luck and pics please 😋

Look on YouTube for anything by Jackson Galaxy on the subject.

From memory you keep them initially apart in different parts of the house, then you ‚scent swap‘ by swapping them over so they can smell each other before seeing each other. Then start feeding them on either side of a door or screen at the same time, then feed them at the same time but without the screen. By that time they‘ll be familiar with each other‘s scent and won‘t see the orher as a threat.

The above advice, plus scent mingling. If possible, give the rescue cat a blanket smelling of your cat for a week or so before he/she comes home; and take a blanket smelling of the new arrival into your house in advance of the rescue coming home. Once the new arrival has arrived, keep them separate as above, but keep swapping bedding. This will help the cats assume a generic 'home smell' and accept each other.
