Anyone's cat a fighter?

It would appear our young lad is. He has just had a huge rolling around scrap with another local cat who is double his weight. Ours has launched himself at this cat before. Other cat doesn't seem like a fighter-he used to annoy our old girl but no more.
Our lad is filthy, his nose is scraped and he has other cat's fur in his claws. I picked him up and got blood on me but no idea where from. He's very stressed so letting him relax. I'll try and clean the scrape.
Both cats are neutered males. Ours is 1. Will he grow out of it or did we adopt a scrapper???

Cat's not even a lover, he can't be bothered Grin Mind you, he didn't start living here until he was around six. His ears have bits out of them so I'd say he used to be a fighter.

Hopefully your lad will settle down. It is distressing listening to them.

Yes.
I’ve got a wonderfully docile female.....then the arsehole Tom cat who likes to throw his weight around Hmm

He's calmed down a bit but still looks a state. DD said he looks like a stray. Cleaned his nose and checked him over and apart from much and black fur of the other cat stuck on his claws I think he's ok.
I hope the other cat is ok-I know it's cat behaviour but bloody hell watching them was quite scary!

Your DD thinks the other cat is a stray? Can you check him/her over for wounds? They can so easily get infected and turn in to an abscess. Presumably if he/she doesn’t have an owner there won’t be anyone to get them to the vet for help.

Two of my boys used to come home with injuries (that did go into abscesses a couple of times). Not sure if they grow out of it because they later became house cats. All cats tend to get more docile as they age but at 1 y/o your boy still has a few fighting years in him I’m afraid!

Big fighter, always has been. He’s tiny, neutered, but still thinks he can win against big fat entire toms. He’s getting old now but he’s got no sense. Cat fight injuries have been excluded on our pet insurance for years :(

Vinorosso74 · 06/07/2018 19:53

DD thinks ours looks like a stray as he's so mucky. The other one lives nearby but not sure where exactly.
None of my previous cats have been fighters so this is all new to me! I'll check him over again at the weekend and keep an eye on in--we're at a wedding tomorrow so he'll have to stay in for the day.

I've got a female fighter. There's a stray who visits us that she gets along with. Recently another stray turned up when my stray was here, so he chased off other stray, my girl ran after them, I followed and found them having a scrap with her on the sidelines salivating at the spectacle. The other fighter I had never grew out of it.

Vinorosso74 · 08/07/2018 15:19

Oh dear so he may remain a fighter. Hopefully lifetime insurance covers a lifetime of scraps!!!
Discovered he also has a scabby ear so cleaned that up too (that will be where I got blood on me from). Going to keep an eye on that as I know they can get infected quite easily. Was hoping we'd have fewer vet visits with a younger cat!

So just back from the vets and £77 lighter. A nice ear wound-vet took scab off and there was a lot of pus underneath. Cleaned up, antibiotic and anti-inflammatory jabs given..... Here's hoping he learns!

Ouch, that looks very sore. Lets hope he starts to calm down soonHmm

Oldraver · 10/07/2018 15:18

Oh your poor cat yes that is a typical abcess wound

I would stop short at calling Ernie a fighter...though he will see off any ct that has the temerity to cross his path (apart from Limpy)...he has duffed a few up including next doors.

He's lso seen off a couple of dogs..next doors hasn't learnt from having his nose bashed last year and still tries to get under the fence
