Grade 3 heart murmur

Has anyone experience of this in a cat? We met a lovely rescue cat today, but he had quite an extensive medical history and this was one of the things mentioned (as well as many fractures that are healing well, poor boy). We fell in love with him and he’s great with young DC which is what we need, but we’d like to make sure we can give him the best possible care.

A grade 3 heart murmur should have an echocardiogram to assess for heart disease.

Ok right......he did sound like he’d received a lot of care from the vet before he was taken to the shelter, so I will ask more about that. He’s only 4, but sounded like he’d really been through the mill Sad

Yes, they need to get him scanned. You will need insurance if he does have an issue. Multiple scans and medication costs a fortune. My girl has cardiomyopathy and is on loads of tablets. Her prognosis isn't good. But she's very well in her self and a very happy kitty.

Thanks for your replies, I’ll speak to the shelter tomorrow and find out exactly what they know, and from there we can investigate insurance options. We’re fairly experienced cat owners and have always insured our pets, but we’ve never actually had one with medical problems before - hopefully we can make this work as he’s such a beaut!

You won't be able to get insurance to cover a pre-existing condition unfortunately...
