Cat started killing after years of abstinence

Have had my cat 11 years from a kitten. When he was younger he used to bring in mice or birds (though not that often). He then stopped for years (like 7 or 8 years).

The last 2 days he has brought in 3 bloody mice!!!! And has been outside all day searching for mice when normally he’s asleep under the bed.

I’m almost 28 weeks pregnant with first child so do wonder if that has anything to do with it. Has anyone any experience of this?

Not directly, but we've had a killing spree in the last couple of weeks. I think the cats have found a mouse nest and are picking them off, one by one

One of ours did that. 5 years of nothing, then a string of mice. I think it was opportunistic though because it coincided with a neighbour having major garden work done and stopped when they were finished.

Dcat isn’t a very successful hunter but did bring in three baby mice over the course of three days last summer. Think he’d been raiding a nest.
Today he had a sparrow and looked very pleased with himself as he emerged from the bushes in the admittedly overgrown garden with it sticking out of his gob. It was dead but not a mark on it so he either found it dead or more likely it died of shock.

2 of mine bring home several dead things daily. Maybe the mice only just moved in?

Dcat caught a pigeon this evening. Luckily it escaped and after sitting for 15 minutes or so to recover, must have flown off. Ever hopeful, the cat is still mooching round the garden.
It’s most unlike him to catch anything let alone two birds in two days!

I came on to post about the same thing! I have locked the catflap so he has to stay out all night after he has brought two mice in and sat there and eaten them in front of me - two consecutive nights.

Cat is a rescue and likes to run free. I feel not quite right about shutting him out but think he would prefer it to being shut in all night. I cannot face cleaning up any more decapitated mice at the moment.

There seem to be a lot of mice about at the moment.

You have mice. In the house or nearby. Luckily you have already purchased the ultimate deterrent/killer.

Dcat caught a mouse today too - he is on a real killing spree at the moment. He bit off and ate half its tail, according to dd. She got it off him and tried to resuscitate it but it opened it’s eyes, stretched and then died

Thing is, we had mice between floorboards (not in actual house) since autumn and he’s shown zero interest! Mouse man been in now and think they’ve gone.

Thankfully these ones appear to be in a nest right at the bottom of the garden (and we have a massive garden) so nowhere near house. Maybe he’s preventing them from getting in for the winter!

Bloody cat has had another mouse tonight. We got it off him but it seems to be dragging a back leg and its little heart is racing.
It’s in a margarine tub in the garden with a capful of water and some cheese. I’ve posted on the small pets section to see if anyone has any advice.

Have taken poor mousie to the vet where they said the kindest thing would be to put down. Poor mousie
The culprit himself has been booked in for his annual health check and vaccination on Thursday - ha!
