Cat has eaten yarn

One of my cats was playing with some short offcuts of yarn from my current crochet project, I looked over when I heard her make swallowing noises to see a length of yarn disappearing like a piece of spaghetti, I tried to grab it but wasn't quick enough. Will it do her any harm? She is semi longhaired so used to extravagant fireball yacking...

It could actually do a lot of harm because it can become tangled on her insides. You'll need to keep a close eye on her for a while and if she passes it but its dangling from her backside do not pull it out just cut it close to her anus and keep monitoring.

In future try and keep her away from anything like this.

I'll keep a close eye on her, I'm hoping it was so short it won't get tangled. All offcuts now going straight into the bin.

It acts like cheesewire through the intestine. If she’s at all quiet tomorrow you’ll have to go to the vets.

A colleague of mines kitten did that and had to have it removed due the the damage it would cause.

Absolutely fine so far, healthy appetite etc. Think the fact that the yarn was only about 10 cm long is hopeful. Still keeping a close eye. Last time I took her to the vet she had a piece of long grass stuck behind her soft palate, it eventually came out through her nostril! She was really miserable that time, so I know how she behaves when in distress.
