Dreaded 2am call from neighbour to tell me my cats been hit/caught by another animal and his poor paw is hanging off. He’s so upset, I’m so upset. Thank god she heard him and woke up. Partner off to vet with him now and my heart is pounding. My poor boy.

We’re supposed to be away tomorrow night to as DPs grandma is unwell and we’re worried she won’t make it much longer. Wtf do we do?

So sorry to hear this Flowers

The vet will look after your little boy but I know it is a frightening time Sad

Wait and see what the vet says and you can make your decisions from there. It might be that you stay with your boy and your dp goes to see his grandma.

teaandtoast · 15/06/2018 02:27

Ooh, awful.

Possibly the vet will need to keep your cat in for a couple of days after his operation?

IMissGin · 15/06/2018 02:31

At the minute I just hope he makes it. I haven’t seen him but it sounded pretty bad. Just lying in bed feeling sick waiting to hear from DP.

Grandma is 300miles away and we’re supposed to be taking the baby. I’m working tomorrow too 😫

Sorry, rambling a bit. I have anxiety so these situations really throw me as my plans go up in the air.

I can’t stop thinking about how long he’s been out in pain. Also where the f his brother is who’s nowhere to be seen??

Hope the vet can fix it ok. Not much comfort but at least he was heard and even if the paw is lost they can get around well on 3 legs. A damaged torso or head from whatever did it would be worse. At least your poor boy was able to get help.

Where are you staying when away? Could you take the cat? I imagine he wouldn't be able to go out anyway. One of ours would be fine with that, the other would hate it so depends on the cat. Or find a sixth former who would be willing to cat sit in exchange for a quiet house and no siblings - would obviously need to make sure they would be respectful - not a partying teenager.

shouldwestayorshouldwego · 15/06/2018 02:37

Hope his brother comes back soon. Having not come in earlier I was worried about one of ours, particularly when woken by animals fighting. He sauntered in 15 mins after my inital attempts to call him as if nothing happened. Hope the bro is back soon. Is he often out all night?

IMissGin · 15/06/2018 02:41

They have a cat flap and are very ‘outdoors’ cats except when sleeping on a pile of fresh washing or a freshly made bed. Sometimes the are out at night, sometimes in. No real routine.

DP just text, looks like his foot has been trapped by something and his toes are pretty much severed but the rest of him actually looks ok. DP said there was so much blood he couldn’t tell. He’s getting bandaged up for X-ray in morning.

Thank you all x

Hi, the important thing is that he at the vet and getting the best treatment. When I've had an injured cat and have to be away I just bite the bullet and pay for the cat to board at the vet. You know then he's getting the best care and if there are any infections etc. they will get picked up and treated.
As for his sibling, maybe the distress of your injured cat has spooked him?

EnormousDormouse · 15/06/2018 02:45

Cross-post! It sounds like he'll survive (even if he won't have his paw). They are remarkably resilient and adaptable - lots of tripod street cats around where I am!

IMissGin · 15/06/2018 02:52

Thankfully it seems so! He’ll hate a collar and being kept in. He doesn’t even use a litter tray.

I always expected it to be his brother- George always seemed wiser and more cat. His brother is more fluff than brains.

Chances of getting back to sleep?

OP posts:
flapjackfairy · 15/06/2018 03:26

About zero i would say !
Sleep that is ! Can you take a day off you sound as if you have a lot of stress at the moment ?

shouldwestayorshouldwego · 15/06/2018 03:28

Our girl is more fluff than brains but as a result I don't think she travels as far. She also can't get out of the back. Her brother will (effortlessly) go through the hedge and under next door's gate. She just can't chain the actions together to achieve that so sits at doors waiting for them to be opened but then is too slow and is scooped up and placed back inside. I am sure there is some reverse evolutionary selection for fluff traits in cats.

Glad all is going as sell as can be expected OP.

Let us know how George gets on!

OliviaStabler · 15/06/2018 18:53
  • well not sell
TimeIhadaNameChange · 18/06/2018 09:50

How's George doing?

thecatneuterer · 18/06/2018 11:26

I hope he's doing OK. We've had a spate of injuries in our clinic rather like that. One came in with a gin trap still attached to his foot. Gin traps have been illegal for around 50 years I think, yet they still appear to be being used. And this was in very urban streets, nothing rural.

I hope it wasn't that which caused his injury. If you know where he goes it might be worth rooting round with a stick to see if you come across any small metal things.

LanguidLobster · 18/06/2018 12:09

Ouch, jesus.

Hope surgery goes well

LanguidLobster · 18/06/2018 14:05

How has little one got on?

StayingAtTamaras · 18/06/2018 14:38

Hope the surgery went ok
