New kitten!

Hello everyone! I've just got myself a new kitten, he's only 8 weeks old and very timid! I've had lots of cats in the past but never one as timid as my new buster. Does anyone have any tips on how I can help to settle him please? I've been really excited to get a kitten and he's so scared it's not at all how I imagined. Any advice would be appreciated 😊

Best to ignore him and let him find his feet a bit. Fishing rod toys are good for interactive play, you could try a feliway plug in too

Deep, deep joy! Any name yet? Has he got a safe, comfy place to hide e.g cardboard box on side with comfy blankie / toys inside plus draped with another blanket?

Awwwwwwww!!! He's a liddle smooshie fwuffy blackie!!!

I have a big smooshie fwuffy blackie, but I'm not allowed to call him that in public.

Feliway is brilliant for helping cats settle.

What a gorgeous little face! Let him become master of one room at a time and make sure he always has somewhere to hide - preferably up high and against a wall, so he can view the whole room. Don't fuss him unless he's up for it - he'll come to you when he's got used to things. Good luck!

When my cat first arrived I kept him in one room by himself for a day or so (with food, water, tray obviously), then I started sitting in there quietly for lengthening periods, reading or something. He soon realised I wasn't a threat and came nosing at me ;)

kittylily2305 · 15/06/2018 07:10

Thanks everyone! He came out to greet me this morning after a bit of fussing in his bed so that's progress! His previous owners didn't handle him much so it's definitely all new to him, poor baby! Hopefully he'll be sleeping on me before I know it 😄

So cute. Introduce him to ham. Just a tiny bit. No cat can resist ham.

TerfsUp · 15/06/2018 07:17

What a cutie!

Pathetically cute. Couldn't you just put him on a baguette and eat him all upGrin
