My cat just sprayed on me!

Our new rescue cat just sprayed on me and the sofa. He's 8 years old and is the only cat in the house. He's been here for just over two weeks, settled in really quickly and has seemed totally chilled and happy with us. He's been neutered for years. Any ideas why, or what we can do to stop him doing it again?

Feliway plug ins help. Our male cat sprays and is neutered. The feliway means it is manageable and I clean obsessively but am paranoid about where he has 'been'. We will never again have a male cat because of this.

I've watched our female cat spray against a tree, so it isn't just males who do this. Our female has been spayed at the earliest opportunity too.
