Litter tray scratching

Hello :) my dp and I bought our rescue girl home last Sunday and she seems to be settling in really well. Almost every night so far though she has pooed in her litter tray around 4.30 am and then goes mad scratching the floor around it bury it. This eventually wakes us up and we go to clean it out. Is there anything I can do to help feel like she doesn’t need to bury it so much? Thanks!

Put a bit more litter in. Some cats are scrabblers. I wouldn't worry about it.

Don't worry, mine's a digger. I sometimes think I'll wake up one morning to find a hole in the floor and a very confused downstairs neighbour.

My lad digs to Australia to start, then scrapes at the whole of the British Isles to cover it. And makes enough noise to wake the dead in the process. As far away as Japan.

I have no advice, but I do have a shed load of sympathy. Sorry.

A covered litter tray (one with a roof on) might also help her feel a bit more secure as she goes about her early hours toilette!

Mine dig, then turn round & dig in a different place, and often a third or fourth time. Boycat clumsily covers scattering litter around the (very large) tray, whereas Girlcat builds a perfect volcano shape usually right in the centre of the tray. Very noisy first time after full litter change, as they have wood pellet litter which is really rattly against the plastic sides of the tray.

When Boycat throws up, Girlcat will often scrape at the laminate flooring to try to cover it up for him.
