My cat smells a bit singed....

Spongecat smells a bit hot/burned? May be related to the weather being much warmer, but she doesn't normally smell like this. She's black, so presumably attracts more heat, and basks in the sun in the conservatory for a long time every day. And I'm not really a cat-sniffing weirdo I promise.... Any ideas please?

My cat smelt ‘smoked’ for a while. I thought he was eating lots of smoked salmon some where then I figured out he what was hanging out some where with a wood burner.

Could he have been near an allotment fire?

My cat smells like this sometimes too but I've noticed it more in the winter, when he's wet. Would love to know the answer so watching the thread intently.

I agree with the PP who suggested your cat may have found a wood burner chimney to sit near. Our childhood cats used to sit on the boiler house roof in winter and come in smelling like they'd been smoked.

Btw I am a cat sniffing weirdo, and always liked the smoky smell.

Could they have had a roll around in the ashes of a bonfire or something similar?
I mentioned to my neighbour that her cat had had a lovely sleep in our old rabbit hutch the other day. She had been wondering why he smelt of hay.

My cat often smells like that when he's been basking in the sun

Ah....well, she dust like a dust-bath on the drive, and there could easily be drifted barbeque ashes, as it's quite windy up here. Glad it sounds like nothing to worry about. Thanks all.

Did she also bring home a freshly barbecued sausage? Or has she been investigating candles? One of ours singed half her whiskers off in a candle once.

My old boy, when he was young and brave, used to come home quite often in the summer with frazzled whiskers. Usually a couple of minutes after we heard BBQing neighbours shouting at him...

I have a cat that also occasionally smells Ssmokey so glad to know he is abnormal.
