Any recs for cat collars with bell that stay on?

Having just lost a very nice cat collar with GPS device and beautiful engraved name tag (naïve newbie cat owners) - any recs for cat collars that are more likely to stay on?

Our cat is very outdoorsy and active. Currently using cheapie (but well reviewed) ones from Amazon that have the safety release, wondering if any better ones.

Shame about the GPS as was quite fun seeing where he liked to hang out (reckon he has a girlfriend 3 doors up...).

Any collar that is guaranteed to stay on is putting your cat at a huge risk of sbeing strangled or injured unfortunately. I have a rescue cat that has scarring under his armpit that is so bad it affects his mobility, we think it was caused by a collar. It's made me never want to put a collar on a cat again. After years of trying with loc8tor tags and collars I've admitted defeat anyway.

The only one our cat has kept on for any length of time is one we bought in Disneyworld! It has the standard safety clip on it but for some reason he hasn't got it off yet. It's lasted a month which is quite impressive. Others last a few days. And it's got a big (Mickey mouse shaped) bell so the birds etc can hear him coming.

Don't use a collar. Especially not on a cat that goes outdoors a lot. Make sure he is microchipped though.

I once came into my living room to find my cat had managed to get his lower jaw into the gap between his (quick release) collar and neck and the collar was stuck fast in his mouth. Thankfully I found him quickly and released it, but even in that time, his mouth was bleeding.

Thankfully, I’d been working from home that day and found him at 11am. Otherwise, I shudder to think what would have happened.

Please think twice before putting a collar on your cat.

My jerk figured out how to get a paw between neck and collar and snap it off. He has an elasticated puppy collar now. Prob still dangerous though.

As others have said, please don’t consider using anything on a cat other than a safety collar that releases quickly and easily. Far too dangerous, they could end up stuck somewhere or seriously injured because of any other type of collar. The fact that your cat can’t home without his collar is most likely a good thing, it means he’s not stuck in next door’s shrubbery or somewhere else silly.

I bulk buy cheap collars so that people know the cats have a home (some old ladies see a collarless cat and assume it needs feeding!) and figure that if anything happens someone will take them to the vets where they will scan for their microchip.

Sorry that’s supposed to say ‘the fact that your cat CAME home without a collar’

Definitely only planning to get a safety collar - its mainly so he's identifiable as a non-stray but also to avoid the mouse/bird carnage. Its also because there's a very similar cat in the neighbourhood and I'm not convinced I can tell them apart!

The collar from Amazon we're now using gets good reviews so will bulk buy some of those.

Sherlock has been sporting a nice safety one from Wilko for several months now. He will now promptly lose it now I've uttered those words!

Gatekeeper · 30/05/2018 17:28

Can you link to the Amazon ones please.

ScreamingValenta · 30/05/2018 17:30

I take the bell off - I don't think it can be very nice for the cat to have a bell jingling in its ears all day.

EachandEveryone · 30/05/2018 17:52

My cats hated a bell they must be so annoying.

Definitely only planning to get a safety collar

Mine had a safety collar on. It didn’t release.
