If i go away from a friday to a Monday. A friend of mine will come in twice a day to feed them and change water etc. They are 9 and 2 years old. Will be able to go out but wary of the younger cat as she very shy. Only problem is the access to go out as i was thinking leaving a little window open and litter trays down. Never left them before

They'll be fine but it's far safer to keep them strictly indoors only while you're away. Cats are more likely to wander off and go missing if there's no one to come home to, and having constant access to the outdoors 24/7 is not safe in any case as most accidents etc. happen in the dark.

They'll be fine. Will your friend stay a bit and play with them? I used to make myself a cuppa when feeding friends' cats so that they had company for a bit. Sometimes they'd come and join me, other times they wouldn't, but they knew I was there.

i would keep them locked in..... however depending where you are, please check the weather. if it is going to be very hot, please open windows a crack, and draw curtains on south side of house/flat to try to keep it cool. make sure they have plenty of water.

In parts of the UK it might be quite hot this weekend.

You're obviously a very caring owner, but I'd strongly advise not to leave windows open - due to the risk of being burgled. Also, if this did happen, I don't think your insurance company would pay out - they would state your house wasn't secure/you hadn't taken reasonable precautions to ensure this.
Also, your cats could be deliberately harmed.

They'll be fine. We've just got back from two weeks away with a cat sitter going in twice a day and Harry was fine.

Cailleach1 · 22/05/2018 13:48

Was about to say that Otter. My PIL were burgled. Utility window slightly open and insurance wouldn't pay out because that was the entry point. Deemed lack of care presumably.

Could you provide litter trays? Also, other cats could come in and beat them up. We have had various cats arrive into our sitting room/hall when the flap was open.

I'd keep them in. They will probably sleep most of the time, anyway.

Thankyou everyone for your replys. The cat sitter will play with them no problem. I agree about the window and i will close the windows. My friend will see to the litter trays to. Its just the saturday and sunday they will need seeing to as i dont leave till 3pm on the friday and back early on the monday. Thanks for the advice as i did not even think about keeping curtains closed etc for a hot day. They probably go mental at me for being kept in for a few days but better and safer.

Admittedly I only have one cat. We leave her for up to 72 hours with an automatic feeder, extra food and water and a litter tray (two if more than 36hrs. Nobody comes in to feed her or play. All windows shut. Cat flap locked and blocked. She’s 100% ok with this and has been since we got her. She’s 8.

Broken11Girl · 22/05/2018 18:16

Could your friend let them out for a bit? As long as they'll return if she needs to leave and they're out, rattling Dreamies often works Smile

I have two indoor cats aged 8 and we left them for a weekend without anyone going in. They had lots of extra food (they have dry food out always anyway) and a number of bowls of water and two litter trays. We left 3pm Friday and were back by 1pm Sunday.

Now we do have security cameras so can check them from anywhere and talk to them but they were totally fine. Not phased at all.

Normally someone would come in but we went away with the cat sitter (family member) and don't trust any one else.
