New cat flap

We have had new doors fitted and have a working cat flap at last (the old one had the flap bit broken off so they would pop in and out the hole in daytime and I put a board up to keep them in at night ).
It's been two days and neither of my girls can work it out and just sit meowing pathetically to come in or go out. Any tips? I have pushed my hand through the flap both ways but the cats look terrified as if it's going to decapitate them and won't try it

Get someone to help you, one pops cat through the flap while the other sits the other side offering encouragement and a dreamie. They will get the hang of it eventually.

Going to try that wormery they are both in at moment. Not fans of the rain

There’s your solution then. Shut them out on the rain with food and Dreamies indoors. Hold the flap open and wave the Dreamies enticingly. My cat is exceptionally greedy and he worked out how to get in on his own.

Ours took a while to work out a new cat flap. To be fair it is a microchip one so clicks each time they go near so may be harder than most.

We showed them it then ended up propping it open for about a week and then after the week they realised they could push it open.
At least it’s not too cold now so may be a good time to do it.

I propped it open with a peg and they will go through but they haven't worked it out when the flap s down though to be fair the old girl was headbutting it this afternoon
