How to help my cat keeping the area cleaned around his butt ?

He is a semi-long hair so poo gets stuck on his fur. He smells. Saturday I gave him a bum bath. Today I wiped his bum with water wipes. He hasn't got diahrrea but his poos are a bit soft. What should I do ? Thank you

Can you take him for regular hygiene trims at the vets?

I have the same problem with my dog. Luckily she doesn't mind having her bum washed, so I shower her in the bath. Don't know how else to deal with it

I trim the fur around my cat’s butt and keep as short as possible. I spray a bit of catnip on the scratching post which keeps her occupied for her haircut. We also have raw food diet for our cats which reduces amount of poo and makes it pretty solid.
