My gorgeous Sphynx boy is currently at the vets, very poorly. He was fine this morning then went down hill very quickly, the vet said that cats hide illness very well.
He was struggling to breathe and not acting ‘himself’. The vet has put him on oxygen therapy and she wants to do x rays. I’ve been sent home to wait. She’s just called to say that they haven’t x rayed him yet (stressed) but they’ve done an ultrasound on his heart and can see that the top two chambers (?) are two and a half times bigger than they should be which will mean fluid on his lungs. They’ve given him medication to try clear the fluid.
She said there’s a 50/50 chance he may pull through. I’m so sad, he’s due to turn 4 in September. She said that for such a young cat he’s ‘really really poorly’. Sad

You did the right thing for him. He couldn't have benefited from having his pain prolonged. You put your lovely cat's wellbeing before your own desire to have more time with him, which is the most loving and unselfish thing you could have done for him Flowers.

Oh bless you. I don't think you are in the slightest bit silly at all. You've done the right thing. The hardest thing but the right thing. I am so so very sorry for your loss. Flowers

You totally did the right thing. I was exactly the same- I raged at myself wondering if I could have got mine more time but letting them go when they need to is a final act of love and you had the strength to do that. You did the right thing. I am so sorry, it’s a cruel thing..
(Feel free to totally ignore next statement- some people need to get a new cat straight away and some people need to wait. If you do think about getting a new one have a look at Devon Rex’s- very similar and don’t have problems with hcm.)
Wishing you safe travels over the next while.. and sending you hugs 🐱🐱

Thank you all so so much for all of the kind words. Barely slept, then when I finally did get some sleep and wake up I forgot for a few seconds the events of yesterday. Then it’s hit me again and I can’t stop crying. Obviously my pain and sadness will pass but it feels so hard. I’ve never lost anyone so important to me so this is heart breaking. My eyes are massive and puffy, my little boy is smiling away at me though so at least he isn’t bothered what I look like :) xx

So sorry to hear your awful news. You did exactly what I'd have done, rather than causing him the stress of coming home, perhaps deteriorating more and then out of hours. It's so hard in the days that follow, try and get yourself out for a bit. x
