8 week old kitten jabs crying

I have an 8 week old kitten. He went for his first set of jabs today and had a microchip fitted. The vet commented on what a healthy kitten he is.
Since we got home all he has done is sleep and he is crying out when picked up. He has eaten okay.
The vet is now shut. Any advice welcome.

8 weeks seems young to have a microchip, my vet wouldn't do it until mine went in to be spayed as apparently the needle is a large one that they use to inject it with and its kinder to have it done under anaesthetic, maybe he's having some discomfort from that?

He seemed ok with the microchip when it was done. He is a very lively kitten and already trying to get outside through tiny window cracks.

His neck is probably sore from the microchip needle. He'll be back to his usual self soon enough.

Thank you. It's unnerving to see him so still and sad when he has such a lively, non-stop character.

He has started to perk up thank goodness. You were right teenagersandFurbabies - love your name!

Mine also got their microchips when they went to get neutered at 4 months. Probably just feeling a bit tender

It does knock them out for 24 hours , call them tomorrow if he is still crying and sleeping .

We microchip all kittens on adoption between 8-12 weeks usually and it's absolutely fine, the needle is not that big.

Most likely the side effects of the vaccination itself; they are basically injected with cat flu so it's much like some humans who feel like they get the flu from the flu jab.
