Ant repellent that's safe for cats

I have just discovered ants just inside my front door. Way my house is set up there's no way I could keep the cats away from the front door while I treat the ants and they can open internal doors anyway.

Problem is both cats like licking them up

Any ideas what I can use that's ok if the cats eat it?

I think I’d ring the vets for advice, or pest control.
