Getting called a 'cat lady'

I was today and was slightly taken aback by it! She shot out from the house the other day and streamed off towards the corner shop where I was going anyway so I put her over my shoulder for the transaction. There were a couple with a dog in the shop (it was huge actually, not sure which breed) but both cat and dog behaved impeccably.

Then when I went earlier today they said 'oh it's cat lady' and said the dog owners (new pet) were really curious about how he would act around a cat.

Would you mind being called a cat lady?

If you're a woman with a cat on your shoulder, I think it's inevitable. If one day I went in my corner shop with a parrot on my shoulder, and they didn't know my name, I expect they'd call me parrot lady for a bit.

IStillMissBlockbuster · 26/03/2018 20:50

I aspire to be a cat lady.

Aprilmightmemynewname · 26/03/2018 20:53

Sounds heaven.

LanguidLobster · 26/03/2018 21:03

Shatners...ok you're stating the obvious!

It just made me feel like Miss Haversham or summat

I wouldn’t be offended.

I get called it all of the time or crap about bring a crazy cat lady. I have 3 cats. I take care of them; keep up with their boosters etc but im not a crazy cat lady. I don't dress them up or bring them to groomers like many dog owners. I pretend i dont give a shit but i do get pissed off about the crazy cat label that's automatically applied by many people to single women who have no dc.

thecatneuterer · 26/03/2018 21:44

I'm just happy if they leave out the word 'mad' at the beginning Grin

FriendsDontLie · 26/03/2018 22:23

I’m with Blockbuster, I am aspiring to be a cat lady!

Toddlerteaplease · 26/03/2018 23:13

I'd love to take my cats shopping! Unfortunately they wouldn't like it!

Want2beme · 27/03/2018 09:34

Not to my face Grin. Just cos you have a couple of cats, doesn't make you a cat lady. I wouldn't mind it, though.

AmethystRaven · 27/03/2018 09:38

Another aspirer here - I would be delighted and probably set up a Facebook page and angle to turn on the town Christmas lights etc.

I'd love to see someone with a cat on their shoulder in a shop!

LanguidLobster · 27/03/2018 09:49

I spoke to a friend last night and she said it was insane to

A) go into a shop with a cat on your shoulder
B) not realise you might be termed 'cat lady' thereafter Blush

I'm with your friend. Sorry. YABU.

IStillMissBlockbuster · 27/03/2018 14:14

You probably shouldn't be surprised. Why do you care though? I love that you could put your cat on your shoulder! Jealous.

Brendaofbeechhouse · 27/03/2018 14:22

At the moment I can barely get my cat to stay in the same room as me, let alone my shoulder (sill sulking after Saturday's worming treatment).
