Cat knowing you’re pregnant??

I hope this doesn’t sound too bonkers.

I’m currently 4 weeks pregnant. DCat is not a physically affectionate cat, tends to like her own space and isn’t cuddly. However the last few days she hasn’t left me alone. Sitting right next to me feet, following me closely and she’s currently lying close to me on the bed, which is very uncharacteristic for her.

I can’t help thinking...she knows! Is that mad? Did anyone else’s cat change behaviour when you were pregnant?

You smell different!

ShowerGel9 · 23/03/2018 18:18

My cat went all for me when I was pregnant !

DefinatelyNotAPooTroll · 23/03/2018 18:20

My cat knew I was pregnant before I did! She would sit for ages on my knee sniffing my belly.. it was all very odd until I did a test and realised she must've been sniffing a hormone or something! She did exactly the same next time round too.

ememem84 · 23/03/2018 18:28

Yep catface did exactly the same to me. Semi feral beast tamed and be suddenly became a softy purry lappy cat.

She’s incredibly protective of ds as well.

RJnomore1 · 23/03/2018 18:30

Definitely true

When I was pregnant with dd1 my friend had two cats. One wasa friendly wee chap the girl wouldn't look the road you were on though

Until I was pregnant and she was all over me all the time.

AaronPurrSir · 23/03/2018 18:33

Glad it’s not just me. It’s actually really cute and sweet!

One of my cats was glued to me through both pregnancies. Used to lie purring to the babies. They definitely know.

Dtld123 · 23/03/2018 19:32

Yep my old cat became obsessed with me. Unlike others have posted it wasn’t just cuddles, there was a lot of humping Confused!

happystory · 23/03/2018 19:37

My cat has never sat in the lap of anyone other then the 4 of us in the house. My niece came over, was about 4 months pregnant, the cat settled on her lap all afternoon.

Grammarist · 23/03/2018 19:41

Mine did this. She knew before I did, both times.

delilabell · 23/03/2018 20:22

My mil's cat was like it from very early on until he could barely fit on my lap.
My own cat barely acknowledged it... Or the baby tbh!

ememem84 · 23/03/2018 21:53

Catface also tried to “help” when I went into labour. She sat on the bed with me and kneaded me. The whole time until waters broke and we went to the hospital. Then, so Dh says, she cried all night once he came home without me. I was in for 2 nights. Dh has two sleepless nights at home with her.

Watto1 · 23/03/2018 21:57

My normally antisocial cat wouldn't leave me alone when I was pregnant. The moment the baby was born, he went straight back to ignoring me!

differentkindofpenguin · 23/03/2018 22:47

Yes! Both cats were all over me ALL the time!

Also, they started bringing me a tasty treat every day of my first trimester. Or, what a cat thinks is a tasty treat anyway.....

As grateful as I was, my morning sickness was not improved by dead mice and birds left neatly on the doormat.....

But they definitely knew!

Daifuku9 · 25/03/2018 02:45

Animals can definitely smell the chemical changes in your body, so absolutely know you’re pregnant! Congratulations on the pregnancy. Smile

chemenger · 25/03/2018 09:58

Cynically I think body temperature is slightly higher when you’re pregnant, which may be an attraction!
