Cat has been missing for hours

I moved house just over 2 weeks ago and I let my cats out for the first time last night for about 5 minutes. Was planning to do the same again this morning but one has bolted and I've not seen him for 7 hours. About an hour after I last saw him I heard him meowing but nothing else since. The other cat went for a wander but came back, so there is a certain level of scent he would recognise in the vicinity of my garden. He generally is quite a roamed but I'm just worried that he won't find his way home.

Don't worry. The first time in new place they often go awol for a good 24 hours. If he isn't back by this time tomorrow then start to look for him.

In the meantime, as it sounds as though you don't have a cat flap, leave some food outside the house for him.

Litter tray in the garden to help with scent, maybe?

Want2beme · 23/03/2018 19:44

Is it possible to leave a downstairs window open for him, if not a problem for you, and that your other cat can't get to? He's got a taste for the outdoors now, so will be very busy exploring.

Is he back yet?

HackedOffSeller · 23/03/2018 21:08

He's still not back unfortunately. I've put cat litter round the garden and there is a cat flap if he does make it back. I've leafletted the surrounding houses and let the other cat out to prowl the area to get his scent everywhere.

Did he leave through the cat flap? If not, can you take the door off so it's just a hole?

HackedOffSeller · 24/03/2018 22:52

My cat has now been missing over 36 hours. I really don't think he will come back so I'm now wondering how I grieve for a pet which is missing? I think I'd rather prepare for the worse rather than continue with having this faded hope.

Hi, has he turned up?

Want2beme · 01/04/2018 10:41

I was wondering about him this morning as well?

HackedOffSeller · 01/04/2018 10:51

No, he's still missing :(

We had one cat that went missing and never returned, it was tough and I still think of him now. Wonder what happened, if he's dead or alive. Always hoping he just adopted another family and is living the life of luxury.

We also had a cat that went missing for two weeks and was found by someone who posted on Facebook and we went and got him.

Don't give up hope, he's in a new place and is probably exploring. Fingers crossed he's home soon Thanks

Could he have got into a neighbours house while they were loading a car for holiday? My cat always went missing first week of the holidays. I’d leaflet every house asking for them to check and enlist the postman.
Everyone knew my little white cat though! He’d always sneak into a house with an open door and get stuck!
