What are they?

So I have two cats, brother and sister and they have been steadily getting bigger. Neither are by any stretch of the imagination overweight (can feel ribs and spine) and they are incredibly fluffy but he is 5.5kg and she is about 5kg (although this may be all fluff).

They are mongrels (if that is a thing in cats) but they must have something in them that comes from colder climes.

Would love to know.

So meant to end with:

If anyone has any thoughts, all gratefully received (and is an excuse to gratuitously post pics of my gorgeous cats)!

Ridiculously handsome is what they are!
Norwegian forest?
Main coon?

Want2beme · 09/03/2018 17:25

They are beautiful, that's what they areGrin
They look like they belong in the mountains, like a Scottish wildcat.

Prettylovely · 09/03/2018 17:26

Wow they are gorgeous 😍😍

LibbyLongtree · 09/03/2018 18:12

Your gratuitous post is forgiven, they are gorgeous.

I agree they look like Norwegian Forest or Maine Coon. I would go with NF cos most people wouldn't know the difference anyway (including me).

KnockMeDown · 09/03/2018 18:16

They are stunning! How old are they, and how long have you had them. I'm guessing since you are asking that you don't know about their parents? Are they rescue?

Toddlerteaplease · 09/03/2018 18:24

Stunning beasts!

wonderlust101 · 09/03/2018 18:35

I have no idea at all what they could be, my kitten is a complete mongrel too but my word they are absolutely stunning!!!

CharlieandLolaCat · 09/03/2018 18:55

I think they're beautiful, glad to see I'm not blinded by proximity!

I got them as kittens from the owner 3 1/2 yrs ago but it was all a bit dodgy and I never saw the parents - I won't do that again and have been very fortunate. They are real home bodies. She is v timid and anxious but v affectionate and he is quite dog; he will literally play fetch with my 3 yr old with those plug socket things that you're not supposed to use these days.

I have just been reading some of the characteristics and actually I think they may be more MC than NF but they both sound pretty similar so I'll go with either!

Thanks all and I've added a gratuitous shot of them as kittens too!

One of ours looks like that. We're convinced that he's Norwegian Forest Cat (or half a one!).

ragged · 09/03/2018 19:32

fluffy?
Must be huge if 5kg+.

InteriorLulu · 09/03/2018 19:32

They look like my cousins Norweigan Forest Cats. Beautiful!

Want2beme · 09/03/2018 19:38

Ha, ha!! Don't blame you OP.

YesItsMeIDontCare · 09/03/2018 19:42

They're probably "Faux Siberians".

They're definitely your masters.

😁

Gorgeous pusscats.

CharlieandLolaCat · 09/03/2018 20:30

Maybe some Siberian in there too. Had him weighed today and given his jabs and the vet commented that he still needed to grow into his feet so there may be a bit more growing to do ......!

Thanks all.

They don’t have the ear tufts but I’d say maine coon

Toddlerteaplease · 09/03/2018 23:06

Actually I'd say there is some Persian in there somewhere. There's something about their eyes. My friends Persian has identical eyes. They don't have the more square face hat MC's have. Especially if they are home birdsong
