Dcat has blood around mouth

We’ve noticed tonight that dcat has a little blood around his mouth.
He was out for an hour or so early evening and I called him in, and gave him a few Felix treats, similar to Dreamies, and then popped out myself.
I can’t get him to let me look properly but I think he has possibly lost a tooth somehow. Maybe broken it on a treat. Can that even happen? I can’t see that he would have an injury to his mouth but no other wounds if he had been in a fight or hit by a car.
He seems ok in himself. He is washing himself and has drunk water but not eaten his supper which isn’t like him and perhaps indicates a sore mouth.
I will take him to the vet tomorrow if he is no better but does anyone have any thoughts?

It could be a lost tooth. It could also be a broken jaw - sometimes if they just fall awkwardly that can happen. I'm sure it could be a lot of other things too.

I hope it's nothing too serious.

Blimey, a broken jaw...I hope not.
He is letting us open his mouth, and one of the kids thought he had what they described as a hole in his mouth, so I’m thinking he has lost a tooth somehow, but think I’ll get him checked tomorrow.
He is nearly four so I wouldn’t expect his teeth to start dropping out.

Been to the vets and given a clean bill of health! She checked inside his mouth and all teeth are fine, no obvious scratches and his jaw is stable. So it’s a mystery what happened, and the only evidence left is a tiny splash of blood on his nose!
£27 down but at least my mind is at rest!

Have you considered that the blood may not have belonged to him, but to something he has eaten during the hour he was out. Would explain drinking but not eating too... Grin

I did wonder that and it is a possibility but he’d normally bring it home to show off. He doesn’t catch much to be honest - three baby mice in three days is his record but he must have been raiding the nest!
