New rescue cat hiding under the sofa

Adopted Dcat who came home today.
He’s from a family with 6 cats and three children, he is one year old.
He came home, had a look around, sat on the windowsill for a bit, then ducked under the sofa and had been there since 11:30. He hasn’t come out for food, water, or to use the litter tray.

I’ve moved his litter and bed and food all into the lounge where he is and sat quietly in the room with him so he can get used to us without feeling threatened.

It must have been such a traumatic experience for him today. Are we doing the right thing? I don’t want him to be hungry.

It’s normal. He’ll come out when he’s ready. Let him come to you, he’s still trying to work out if your all cat murderers.

He'll probably come out overnight to have a bit of an explore when there's nobody around. Mine hid for DAYS, only reason I knew they were alive was the food & water vanishing, and the litter tray being used.

He’s been out for food, water, and a wee, and initiated lots of cuddles.

My friend got two rescue kitties who hid under the sofa for ages

Now he gets home from work, they're sprawled on the sofa, he's like "hello, I would like to sit on MY sofa please"

Aww he's gorgeous. And probably just a bit scared. Ours was the same, but she came out of her shell pretty quickly.

Aw what a beauty. We rescued two and only one hid under the bed. Now, he follows me everywhere including sitting on the side of the bath while I'm in it ❤
