Kitten with asthma - any advice?

My husband took our 7 month old kitten to get her flead and wormed and the vet told him he can hear a wheezing noise in the cat’s lungs. Apparently it could be asthma, although the vet said it is usually detected in older cats (2 years+).

Kitten is fine. On the odd occasion (after very energetic play with the laser pointer!) the kitten pants like a dog, but it hadn't occurred to me that it might be asthma.

The vet didn’t seem too worried and said to keep an eye on it. I’m slightly annoyed that I wasn’t at the vets to ask questions!

Anybody has any experience with feline asthma? How serious is it? Is energetic play still ok?

I have a persian with it. Anything slightly stressful (grooming/pill giving/ being put in a carrier/not being offered the particular food he wants) and he starts wheezing terribly. I sometimes think he puts it on to make sure he never has to submit to anything he doesn't want to . He has occasional wheezing fits at other times but seems to get on with it ok.

I have sub cut injections to give him if things seem particularly bad and I can't for the life of me remember what's in them. I think it begins with 'b' ...

The asthma sounds a bit scary but manageable. The vet didn’t give us any medication (I suppose it’s not serious enough yet) but it’s good to be prepared (or so I tell myself!).

If my persian wasn't in every other way the dimmest cat ever born, then I would certainly suspect it was put on.

As for energetic play - I'm not a vet so can't advise from that standpoint. However my boy loves to run round the garden and it doesn't seem to bring on any fits, so I don't think exertion is a factor.
