Frozen ground

We have 2 18 month old cats. Since they started going outside they haven't used the litter tray, although we have kept it.

Problem is the ground outside is frozen solid and one of them absolutely has to bury everything. So I think she's just not going.

Any suggestions? I've bought another litter tray, which she will sit in but not poo. Is there a more soil like brand of litter I could try? Or should I use hot water to thaw a patch outside? Kitty keeps going in and out and in and out and I see her trying to dig in the flowerbed but she can't.

Can you pour some boiling water on the ground then dig around it a bit with a trowel so she's able to go?

I have been known to go out and turn the soil in the garden for Harry so he can do what he needs to...

Ok. Hot water and a trowel it is then.

Can't believe I'm going outside to dig my garden up in the dark and a blizzard. Just as well picky princess cat is so cute...

Our cat is the same, he's moaning because he doesn't want to go out but I suspect he hasn't pooed today yet. He put one paw in his tray then decided to hold on a bit more.

So I felt bad for MistoffeleesCat, just been out and made a little path to under a bush, poured hot water on and dug a bit of grass out/roughed the soil up. Went back in for MCat, carried him to poo zone, he wandered back to the house, avoiding the paths, explored the snow for a bit then shot across the lawn to two metres away from lovingly pre-cleared poo zone and did his business in a snow drift Hmm

Mistoffelees that made me laugh a lot. They are little swines aren’t they,

Mistoffelees · 01/03/2018 23:21

Yep! He then shot back in and demanded food, he'd obviously made room Grin

Ernie has two toilet areas, one soil and one more sand...both are turned over regularly anyway.

I moved the snow on top and just turned the ground over...it was easy to do and hadn't frozen solid anyway

Oldraver · 03/03/2018 21:18

I also made Ernie a path to his toilet

OH got up and said "Oh I see you have made Ernie a path" and laughed

Later...me "what are you doing ?"

OH..."keeping Ernie's path clear"

Dcat has barely stirred for about four days. He howls his head off, looks out of the door but won’t venture out, eventually deigns to use the litter tray to do a poo, and then runs upstairs at 100mph in relief!
