We tried woodchip - it made him sneeze
We tried paper - works but gets everywhere and needs changing 2-3 times a day
We tried clumping clay - works still need to scoop 3 times a day less waste - but it literally gets everywhere - driving DH mad

What do we try next?

We use this stuff from Zooplus. It rarely tracks outside the litter tray. Sometimes a bit on the mat in front of tray but other than that it's fine. We also use a lidded tray so she can't kick it everywhere.

I use intersand classic. I have two indoor cats and I scoop one daily and do a full change monthly.

KatyMac · 15/02/2018 14:04

It was you that reccommeded the clay one - DH hates it!

Our bed is covered!

actually that's not true he loves the clumping but hates the little grey bits that get everywhere

It's getting him down and unless i want to start cleaning the house myself i need a different solution....

We use a corn based clumping one, but it IS dusty. My boy's a very enthusiastic scatterer, so we have to sweep up, and he leaves dusty wee footprints on the furniture, but he also brings in soil and leaves if he goes outside, so I figure it's going to be messy, no matter what.

I buy a big bag from Amazon. It's pretty expensive but it will always be my first choice.

I've heard good things about walnut shells - but I can't find any

Or paper based clumping pellets (also can't find)

Our cat rarely goes out & never poos or wees out there (well he wee'd twice last summer, possibly marking territory )

I'm using worlds best mixed with a tigerino nuggies clumping clay one. They are both clumping litters. Mine don't like the very fine sandy ones. Another one with bigger pellets is cats best nature gold (smart pellets ) and they are clumping too. I get ours from zooplus or bitiba online

dementedpixie · 15/02/2018 20:36

These are the 2 i am mixing just now

I found catsan got smelly very quickly. I like being able to scoop out pee and poo too

laudanum · 15/02/2018 21:01

Tigerino silicate litter is the best I've found.

KatyMac · 15/02/2018 21:03

He was rescue & he came with the instruction that wood was best

It made him sneeze and we are slowly trying different sorts - I think I'd prefer biodegradable

Walnut is expensive - I'll see if it clumps

m.zooplus.co.uk/shop/cats/cat_litter/cats_best/43107 used this for a while but it was out of stock when i needed it so ordered something else

NC4Now · 15/02/2018 21:36

We use a silica gel one but it might not meet your criteria. It’s very clean and lasts ages, but probably not biodegradable.

Toddlerteaplease · 15/02/2018 21:42

Blush Sorry you hate it, I love it!

Toddlerteaplease · 15/02/2018 21:46

Suprised it needs scooping so often though.

TheSecondOfHerName · 15/02/2018 21:48

@dementedpixie
Zooplus now has Cat's Best Nature Gold (smart pellets) back in stock

Catterfly · 15/02/2018 21:50

Oooh op! I just came on to recommend the new walnut shell one I've started using. It's called natures calling and I get it from pets at home. I have two cats who share the tray. It tracks a tiny bit but only next to the tray. I haven't noticed any smells atall since ive used it and it clumps amazingly! I've used it for 3 weeks now and still looks fresh. No dust either. littlewoollypervert · 15/02/2018 21:51

Top entry litter tray stops the scattering of litter. You can make your own

littlewoollypervert · 15/02/2018 21:53

Ikea storage box and cheapo doormat. Cut a hole using a dinnerplate, stick doormat on top. Lid removes for scooping.

dementedpixie · 15/02/2018 21:53

It's only £9.99 from zooplus or £17.99 for 2 bags. I haven't tried it

Mulch · 15/02/2018 21:54

That's such a good idea littlewoolyperv

GrassWasGreener · 15/02/2018 22:03

friend of mine taught her cat to do all pooing etc in the toilet! so clever, i think if you google it, you can order a thing to train your cat to use the loo, no more litter!
