A new kitten with existing cat

We have a lovely almost-6 year cat. She is very much DS1's cat and we would like to get a kitten for DS2 who often feels left out ( he is 9) but we love Dcat and would hate to upset her. S Do you think it would be OK to introduce a new kitten into this set up? he is not as crazy as she used to be and likes to have a snooze but still enjoys lots of mad playing too.We have a 3 floor house so she could easily get away from the kitten if she wanted some peace and quiet.

We got a new kitten when out existing cat was 5. They were absolutely fine. Existing cat mothered the kitten, grooming her and running to rescue her whenever she starting squeezing because she was stuck etc. Now kitten is 2 and they exist in a happy relationship of mutually ignoring each other.

Thanks ineedamoreadultieradult My biggest worries are that existing cat would get pissed off and move out or get stressed and frustrated and hurt the kitten. I appreciate cats are not that bothered about company so I'd definitely settle for mutual ignoring!

Have integrated two kittens into the house with an older cat the trick is not to rush it take it slow , keep them separated and only get them get together for short periods then separate again , use the existing cat smells in the kittens basket and vice a versa so they get used to each other smell.
it took us aboutsix months dto fully integrate but now they sometimes share a bed and are happy to eat out of the same bowls so all good

My 1yo cat was introduced as a 6 week old kitten to my other, then 2yo, cat. He in turn was introduced as an 8 week old kitten to my then 7yo cat (she's since died) and she was introduced as a 6mo to an elderly cat of indeterminate age (also now dead). No problems anywhere along the line.

As long as you give them plenty of time and, most importantly, their own safe spaces they'll be fine.

I've done it lots of times and never had a problem. It does depend on the temperament of your current cat though. I had one cat a few years ago who loved people but attacked other cats and would even had a go at dogs walking past our house. We had his sister as well and he would often have a go at her. I knew there was no way I could introduce another cat whilst we had him.

When we had to have him PTS I got two rescue kittens from my local rescue. Our remaining cat (sister of bad tempered one) took to the two new kittens really quickly as she adored them. Here's a photo of one of the kittens all grown up (the ginger) with his much loved older adopted sister.
